Salary: £10.50 - £12.25 per hour (equating to £21,840 to £25,480)

Accommodation: subsidised accommodation available on site or in local town

Staff transport: provided free between staff houses and hotel

Hours: 40 per week

THE ROLE OF GARDENS ASSISTANT
This is a truly special role where you’ll spend your day working in the breath-taking surroundings in a peaceful corner of the Lake District. As our Gardens Assistant, you’ll work to maintain the beauty of plants, outdoor grounds, and trees in the garden of the stunning Gilpin Hotel and estate.

You’ll perform a range of general garden and maintenance tasks including designing, producing, renewing and preserving our stunning outside spaces. You may work on grounds projects from time to time, as well as supporting the overall presentation of the garden and grounds including reactive and ongoing maintenance. Above all else, you will work to create garden environments that are enjoyable, safe and secure for all our guests.

To excel in this role, you’ll be someone who:

  • Supports daily hotel operations by ensuring all garden decking, saunas and patio areas are cleaned to the highest standard.
  • Assists the Garden Team with scheduled seasonal gardening tasks such as mowing, strimming, planting and pruning on deckings, patios, and in the wider garden areas.
  • Can confidently use (or is willing to learn) strimmers, lawn mowers, leaf-blowers and smaller hand tools.

To succeed in this role, you should be physically fit and able to manage small and heavy machinery. You'll also be happy to help with the management of our three pot-bellied pigs, and small herd of Llamas and Alpacas.

The ideal candidate will be friendly, professional and possess a clean driving licence.

SUBSIDISED ACCOMMODATION
Fantastic subsidised shared staff accommodation, some at the hotel, some in the countryside, and some in the centre of Windermere and Bowness. In all accommodation there is a shared kitchen and lounge area, and some have added extras such as a pool table, dart board and X-box… We spring clean and paint your room before you move in, meet you, show you around, and settle you in with a welcome pack, and check all the accommodation monthly to make sure everything is still lovely. Our staff accommodation ranges from mobile homes to luxury ensuite rooms in Bowness and Windermere (from £130 to £350 per month including bills). If you’re really trying to save and don’t have a lot of stuff, there are a few very small mobile home rooms that we don’t charge anything for.

STAFF TRANSPORT
Free staff transport between Gilpin and the staff houses in Crook, Windermere and Bowness.

ENGLISH LESSONS
We provide personalised English classes (while you’re paid) if you wish to gain confidence and ability to communicate in English. The aim is to motivate and encourage progression here at Gilpin as well as to gain confidence outside of work.
