StatsBomb was founded in January 2017 to provide data, analytics and consultancy to football teams, media and gambling companies, and has grown into a global multi-sports data and analytics SAAS provider.


StatsBomb are well known in the sports analytics industry for providing unique insights into the game of soccer and have developed a strong brand synonymous with highest quality and accuracy of data coupled with excellent customer service and support.

About The Role


You will be joining a remote team including other software engineers, UI designers, 3D designers and a project manager to develop new products to support American Football. You will be working in an Agile environment, and you will also share best practice and insights with other product teams at StatsBomb. You will have access to industry leading senior engineers to help develop and hone your development skills as well as other leading technology disciplines such as Computer Vision, machine learning, database management, data streaming and many others.


We are a fast growing company, with an incredibly full roadmap and are therefore looking for someone who is driven, self-motivated, flexible and comfortable working at a fast pace delivering new functionality on a regular basis.


As well as having the required technical skills, communication is a critical skill especially as the team will be largely remote, so sharing progress and working collaboratively online will be a vital part of the role. The working culture at StatsBomb is creative, collaborative, open, and informal whilst maintaining high standards in working ethos and coding best practice. Attention to detail and ensuring our products are accessible to all users are critical to all front end development and we are looking for someone who is as happy perfecting the finer UI details as they are experimenting and testing new software.


Job Responsibilities


  • Work with designers and SMEs to develop front-end features
  • Document new features, research, and user feedback
  • Make contributions to the StatsBomb shared components library
  • Being an active participant in code reviews/pull requests
  • Present improvements and ideas to peers

Your technical skills:


Essential:


  • Proficiency in React, JSX, HTML, CSS
  • Experience using state management (e.g. Redux, Contexts)
  • Understanding of JavaScript Fundamentals (ES6+)
  • Experience with Git
  • Experience with Unit Testing
  • Basic visualization skills in SVG/D3/ggplot/Tableau or similar

Desirable:


  • Fluent in American Football
  • Experience working with a centralized UX team
  • Experience working with complex relational databases
  • Experience building responsive, touch enabled web applications
  • Design-led, user experience focused UI development
  • Experience with developing for production
  • Experience with Linux servers

Other technical skills:


  • GraphQL
  • AWS (Amplify, S3)
  • Storybook, TailwindCSS, CSS-in-JS styling
  • Accessibility

Your background:


  • Commercial experience using a range of software languages
  • Ideally a BSc in a CS / Science based degree, or equivalent knowledge
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Team player, self-motivated, hard-working, keen to learn
  • Basic understanding of football
  • Experience of working in the sports media industry would be a bonus
