GoodWork is a non-profit, helping young people from marginalised communities to access and succeed at work. To support the delivery of our upcoming programme, we’re hiring a freelance Programme Officer to join us from the start of September until the end of March. Subject to funding, this role could be extended or become a full-time position in future.
Responsibilities:
- Building relationships and working one-to-one with a small group of individuals on our programme. Helping them set and stay accountable to their goals. You might also help with CVs, job applications and interview coaching.
- Liaising with volunteer mentors and coaches to ensure they have the information and resources they need. Keeping our records updated to reflect engagement with the programme from both young people and volunteers.
- Supporting the delivery of our training programme. Acting as an extra pair of hands to get venues set up, engaging with our participants and helping with logistics.
- Actively searching for opportunities and resources relevant to our young people, and sharing these in a regular roundup.
- Ad hoc programme coordination tasks, such as helping organise insight days or workshops with our corporate partners.
What we're looking for:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Great communication is essential to delivering our programme.. As this role will involve editing CVs, job applications and cover letters, it's important you have strong attention to detail and very good written English.
- Empathy and relationship building. Many of the young people we work with have experienced substantial barriers in work, their personal lives or education. We must build relationships based on trust and understanding so that we can support them to achieve their goals.
- Resilience and a growth mindset. Adaptability and perseverance in the face of challenges are crucial to the success of the young people on our programme. It’s important that our team models these behaviours too.
- Proactivity and great organisational skills. Monitoring engagement with the programme, escalating issues and helping to coordinate programme delivery.
- Problem solving. Creativity, generating ideas and helping the team to navigate through programme delivery (even when things don’t go to plan).
We’re not looking for any particular professional background. However, this role involves working with young people at the start of their careers to help them navigate the world of work. As such, we are looking for candidates with professional experience that they can draw on to support participants.
We work with a diverse group of young people from marginalised communities. As such, we particularly encourage applications from those who have lived experience relevant to our programme.
This includes but is not limited to people of colour, those with disabilities (including people who are neurodivergent), care leavers, non-graduates and those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds.
