Job description
Bolton Brothers Ltd, a family run Recycling and Waste Management company based in Gt Blakenham, approximately 5 miles from Ipswich are looking for a counter balance forklift operator to join their busy Materials Recycling Facility team. You will be under the supervision of the Forklift Team leader and responsible for the efficient loading and unloading of baled and palletised material for delivery or collection on containers and curtain siders.
Main Responsibilities
- Completing pre-operation safety checks on FLT/Clamp trucks.
- Operating the Forklift most of the working day however there will also be manual work required also such as handballing, on the ground stock takes, physically liaising with visiting drivers etc.
- Respecting on-site health and safety processes to help minimise risk of damage or injury and ensuring written safe systems of work are followed at all times.
- Respecting general housekeeping rules to optimise the tidiness of the operating area
- Ensuring the company’s environmental policies and procedures are adhered to
- Processing digital delivery/collection notes using our industry/based management system to record details of the incoming/outgoing material
- Recognising issues with material contamination and flagging them with your team leader as necessary
- Ensure written safe systems of work are followed at all times.
- Weigh and prepare all material for processing through the plant.
- Maintain a steady and constant material flow to the granulators at all times.
- Bale up reject materials, including baling wires, and store correctly ready for shipping.
- Complete shift figures for bales processed.
- Unload goods-in material and store correctly.
- Deep clean during periods of downtime.
- All FLT/Clamp operators must know the start-up and shutdown of front- end sorting equipment.
- Report any maintenance issues to the Shift Manager
- Liaising with the Weighbridge team to understand daily inbound/outbound material and load orders to ensure stock levels can meet orders
Skills/Qualifications required
- must hold a current forklift licence
- must have minimum of two years previous experience in operating a forklift in a heavy-paced industrial/production/manufacturing environment
- must have excellent awareness and understanding of Health & safety procedures on an industrial site
- must be able to speak fluent English and have a good understanding of written English in order to navigate our digital management system using a mobile tablet
- must hold a current car/motorcycle licence and be able to drive to and from site using own car or motorcycle due to the working hours and limited public transport available.
- Basic numeracy and literacy (GCSE’s in maths and English).
- Current counter-balance fork truck and clamp truck license essential.
- Good general understanding of mechanical machinery to identify potential maintenance issues and report accordingly to minimise downtime.
- Basic knowledge of IT and ability to understand digital applications on a tablet to record material data and loading details.
- Willingness to learn new skills and improve personal development
- Self-motivated, can-do attitude.
- Physically fit as manual lifting will at times be required
- Excellent record of attendance is essential (permission may be asked to request attendance records from previous employers).
- Good team player and able to work with people from all backgrounds and in all circumstances in a polite and sensitive way.
Main hours Monday – Friday 0700 – 1700
Please note: During busier periods shifts may change to 0600 – 1600 and 0800 – 1800 or 0600 – 1700 and 0700 – 1800 (additional hours paid at an enhanced rate).
You may be required to work on a Saturday morning (0700 – 1200) at an enhanced rate of pay.
£653.44 per week based on 47.5 hours Mon – Fri 0700 – 1700. Any other overtime paid at enhanced rate.
Weekly pay increasing to £679.06 per week for 47.5 hours after successful 6 month probation.
