The Role
Sheffield Forgemasters is an iconic heavy engineering company which is capable of producing the largest and most technically challenging cast and forged steel components in the world from its manufacturing facilities in Sheffield.
In 2021 the business was acquired by the UK Ministry of Defence which secured its role as a critical supplier to the next generation of UK defence programmes, and is currently embarking upon a substantial recapitalisation project to modernise its plant and equipment over the next 10 years.
Sheffield Forgemasters is currently looking for a Forge 2nd hand, who will be working within our Forge Department.
As a Forge 2nd Hand at Sheffield Forgemasters you will work as part of a team, organising the loading and unloading of the forge furnaces and to make sure the tooling is set up for the planned forging through the shift.
The main Responsibilities include:
To make sure the forge furnaces are loaded and unloaded safely.
To take full responsibility for the correct identification and furnace position of forgings marked up on the furnace white boards.
To assist the forge lead hand working weights out for the forgings.
To take full responsibility for tagging forging with the correct ID once complete.
To make sure the tools are ready for the days production needs.
To deputise for the forge lead hand and all their duties during holidays and sickness.
Candidates must have:
Thorough understanding of health and safety in the workplace
Good communication skills
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Willing & able to undertake shift work and must be willing to work in any area of the business
Must be willing to undertake press driving training.
Must be willing to learn Crane driving.
Must learn all aspects of the forge 2nd hand role.
Our ideal candidate will also have:
Previous crane driving experience
Previous heavy engineering experience
Days/Hours of Work:
Average of 40 hours per week, 2 Shifts - 06:00 to 14:00 Mon to Fri & 20:00 to 06:00 Mon to Thursday. (Hours of work are subject to change)
