Landmarc Support Services is recruiting for a Forestry Works Manager. Working as part of the North Region Project Management Office (PMO), you will be responsible for managing contracts for timber harvesting, woodland site restoration, preparation and restocking, the establishment of new plantations, tree safety works and ash dieback operations. In addition, you will be taking on a number of projects to conserve and enhance the natural and historic environment of the Defence Training Estate.
Main ResponsibilitiesProject manage a programme of Forestry Works (e.g. harvesting, Ash dieback works, other tree H&S works, reinvestment and planting). This includes all project phases from scoping, tendering, overseeing the delivery of works and sign-off.
Supervise forest workers and contractors in the field regarding compliance with statutory, mandatory and contractual obligations; communicating with main contractors and subcontracting companies.
Ensure forest operations are carried out to professional health and safety standards, to established industry best practice and to discharge the duty of care in all respects.
Provide HO Forestry & Arboriculture Adviser with region-specific input in the planning and implementation of annual work programmes and ensure the effective use of resources to meet the current objectives of the forest area.
Attend meetings as required.
Keep up to date with changes in legislation and other developments in the industry. A good knowledge of FISA guidance is vital.
Work to, and maintain, good forest practice within Landmarc and supply chain.
Deliver the NEC3 / NEC4 process.
Carry out any other duties as stated by the regional team.
The Ideal CandidateYou are currently or recently employed as a Forest Works or Forest Contracts Manager in a contracting company, rural estate or public sector forestry organisation or have equivalent experience in the environmental sector. You have experience of working in lowland forestry in mixed woodlands. You have managed forest contracts successfully in designated areas (such as SSSI, SAC, SPA) and in the presence of protected species (EPS, badger etc.) and historic assets (such as SAM). You have demonstrable experience in managing forest work sites to which the general public has access and where other stakeholders have interests (such as game shoots, off-road cycling and agricultural tenants). You are meticulous in record keeping, documentation and the delivery of contractual processes. You have a deep curiosity about, and passion for, trees and woodlands.
Qualifications (not all required)
Level 4 qualification in Forestry/Woodland Management, such as HND / HNC. Alternatively, significant experience directly applicable to the role.
Project management qualification e.g. APMP or Prince 2 (or quantifiable experience)
Full driving licence valid in the United Kingdom.
Complete Baseline Personnel Security Standard – this is compulsory for all personnel who work for Landmarc Support Services Limited as Official Defence Contractors. This includes a Basic Police Disclosure, however, unspent convictions are not necessarily a bar to employment and will be reviewed case by case to ensure there are no risks to the security and integrity of the work completed by Landmarc Support Services Limited.
National Security Vetting may be required however you will be informed of this requirement during completion of the Baseline Personnel Security Standard.
