Job description
We are looking to recruit field-based Forensic Investigation Officers.
The role
Working in this high-profile role, you will manage your own portfolio of cases, investigate financial discrepancies and inaccuracies and analyse complex information and data.
You will attend law firms throughout England and Wales to determine whether there has been serious professional misconduct which includes breaches of the accounts rules.
You will gather evidence, both remotely and onsite, interview key individuals and obtain witness statements. You will compile robust, easily readable and factual reports of the findings that will inform our regulatory decisions. This could lead us to take disciplinary proceedings or to close a law firm. You will also represent the SRA in court, giving evidence of your investigation’s findings.
You will need to understand our Standards and Regulations and have an accounting knowledge including how solicitors record and account for client money. You will also need to be able to analyse complex numerical and financial information.

What we are looking for

Accountancy experience and/or experience in law firms or similar regulatory or investigative environments

Experience of analysing complex information

Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing
- Flexibility, tenacity and ability to adjust priorities at short notice.

Salary range for a Birmingham based role is £38,680 - £45,500, and £42,741 - £50,278 for a London based role, and an offer will be dependent on demonstrable knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate can bring to the role.
The role is field-based and will require extensive travel throughout England and Wales including to our main office in Birmingham. A car allowance of £5,600 per annum (subject to minimum mileage criteria) and appropriate equipment will be provided to allow you to work in the field.
