Reading Scientific Services Ltd (RSSL) is a cutting-edge Contract Research Organisation (CRO), providing research, analysis and consultancy to the life science, healthcare and food sectors. Our Product and Ingredient Innovation department (PII) carries out product development, ingredient evaluation and taste optimisation for a variety of food, pharmaceutical and health care companies and supports Mondelez research and innovation.
The role of Junior Innovation Technologist is to be responsible for carrying out practical work to support project managers to help solve problems associated with the formulation of new food products, application of ingredients and development of novel food processing techniques. The role is also responsible for performing kitchen admin, housekeeping activities and working in accordance with the quality standards and health and safety requirements of the PII kitchen.
Primary Accountabilities / Responsibilities:
- Ensure effective organisation of assigned workload, provide high quality product samples, and timely/accurate provision of results.
- Follow product formulations provided by project managers to produce bench scale samples to a high standard Support on pilot plant and scale up trials as and when requested by project managers
- Be competent in the operation of all kitchen equipment
- Maintain accurate records of practical work and results generated for contribution to high quality final reports
- Attend review meetings and project updates when requested
- Provide training in routine lab activities and housekeeping duties
- Will be expected to work in different laboratories if the demand is required.
- Work as part of an efficient development team
- Work to the highest standards of safety and quality by ensuring that appropriate risk assessments, SOPs and COSHH’s are understood and followed.
- Assist with the documentation of SOPs for new equipment and the generation of Risk Assessments and COSHH
- Complete assigned quality actions in a timely manner
- Be responsible for general housekeeping within the development kitchen, maintaining equipment, stock control and ensuring a clean, tidy and safe working environment
Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Language Requirements:
- Educated to Degree / HNC level in a food & nutrition discipline or equivalent relevant experience in a laboratory
- Good understanding of basic lab equipment
- Accountable, honest, hardworking and able to work efficiently in a team
- Flexible and adaptable to meet customer/business requirements.
- English fluency (written and spoken)
