Dahlia Beach is a young, dynamic company, that is gathering huge interest within the British flower industry and national press, with over 60,000 followers on Instagram.
We have two beautiful farms situated in Oxfordshire that handle different, specific areas of our business; Millets Farm is a PYO dahlia site and Woodstock is where we run a commercial cut flower farm.
Farm Supervisor Role:
We are looking for someone with a background in horticulture, to supervise the operational running of the farm at Woodstock.
This will include the packing and distribution of the tubers from March – May, the planting and maintenance of the farm from April – July and the picking and distribution of cut flowers from August – end of October.
This role would primarily be suited to someone passionate about growing flowers, enjoys getting their hands dirty, who loves working outdoors and is good at supervising small teams of people.
It is a physically demanding job and so a good level of fitness would be required.
Job Description:
As Site Supervisor your role will start by working closely with our onsite Farm Manager.
During the tuber packing period your responsibilities will include:
- setting up the packing stations for the boxes in the grain store
- packing of the Dahlia Beach tuber boxes
- supervising a small team of packers; overseeing temporary staff rotas and timesheets
- liaising with Royal Mail for collections
- ensuring accurate record keeping
- stock control
- daily communications with Farm manager
During the planting and maintenance period your responsibilities will include
- Preparing the field for planting
- Assisting with the planting of the tubers
- Sowing annual seeds
- Potting up tubers in the plant nursery
- Laying membrane on the walkways
- Installing clear signage for different varieties
- Planting into the poly tunnels
- Watering of nursery pots
- Any ongoing site maintenance required
- Checking crop for disease
- Assessing any watering or nutritional needs of crop
During the flowering season your responsibilities will include:
- supervising a freelance team of flower pickers to fulfil wholesale/market/customer orders
- Managing and submitting pickers timesheets to farm manager
- Liaising with the farm manager regarding deliveries and collections
- Loading flowers into prep areas within our barns
- Conditioning flowers
- Creating work stations for arranging bouquets
- supervising small teams of flower arrangers/florists
- Loading trolleys with finished bouquets ready for market
- Loading market trucks for delivery
Skills we are looking for:
- Horticultural background of at least 2 years.
- Excellent communication skills
- Team player with experience of supervising
- Reliable, organised and punctual
- Positive, ‘can do’ attitude
- Resilient approach to problem solving
- Flexible Team Player that can adapt quickly to the businesses needs as required
