Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is dedicated to protecting and promoting the health of Virginians. The VDH is made up of a statewide Central Office in Richmond and 33 local health districts.
The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) has an exciting career opportunity for an experienced professional to serve as a Policy Analyst Sr. in the Office of Epidemiology. The selected candidate will be responsible for independently performing analysis of policy, regulations and legislation for a variety of subjects and/or program areas within the Office of Epidemiology, with a focus on communicable disease surveillance, prevention and control. Actions have agency wide application and operational or service impact. Responsible for drafting policies and procedures and tracking policy updates. Supports office leadership team in internal and external policy development, including background research, writing, and establishing and maintaining document tracking systems. Conducts follow up evaluations of studies, policies and various programs to assess impact on policies and procedures. Compiles and reports on statistics related to policies and programs to evaluate implementation and maintenance of policies, procedures and associated tools. Develops impact statements that may include budget issues. At the direction of the Office Director, May serve on committees and boards and appear in hearings and public meetings as an agency representative. May lead efforts for the preparation and publication of studies and statistical reports. A successful candidate will be a highly organized, enthusiastic, detail oriented team player who has a commitment to professional growth and continuous learning.
Minimum Qualifications
- Ability to perform planning and analytical tasks, providing management with a comprehensive view of operations, conduct analytical research, provide alternative solutions and assessments of long range impacts of work processes and recommendations
- Experienced in drafting of operational policies and procedures
- Ability to research and apply findings to solutions; identify various policy options and potential impact
- Experience in Microsoft applications; data collection, research, organizational studies and statistical analysis
- Knowledge of state policy development structures, processes and stakeholders
- Ability to communicate effectively and facilitate meetings
Preferred Qualifications:
- Graduation with a Bachelor's degree in business administration, public policy, public administration or a related field or equivalent and applicable experience and training
- Experience in public health policy development in a local or state government setting.
