We are looking for highly motivated candidate for the role of Flow Cytometry Technician to support the PerkinElmer OneSource Scientific Services within our Analytical support team.
The successful candidate will have responsibility for
Calibration and basic maintenance of flow cytometry equipment
QC of cell preparations and Flow based assays
Analysis of gene editing efficiency by flow cytometry analysis
Culture of Cell lines to support lentiviral production for gene editing
This role will report into the Analytical Section Leader and will be embedded in the GSK Immunology Research Unit on the Stevenage Campus.
Job Responsibilities:
Operational
To perform routine calibration/basic maintenance flow cytometry equipment
Quality control of any cell preparations and Cytometric flow- based assay
Analysis of Gene editing efficiency using flow cytometry methods
Culture of Cell lines to support lentiviral production
Prepare materials and equipment for use
Maintaining the efficient management of the laboratory
Operate to approved quality standards
Maintain quality systems by keeping accurate records of work undertaken, methods used, and results achieved
To ensure safe operation of any equipment use
Compliance with all relevant working instructions, SOPs and safety instructions
To be responsible for maintaining an efficient laboratory environment and for ensuring health, safety and compliance standards are met and maintained.
To liaise with customer groups to discuss their requirements, agree protocols for new tasks, escalation to Line Manager as required.
Planning of own daily tasks.
Be an active member of groups outside routine daily role to ensure the growth and high-quality of the PerkinElmer support for GSK.
Qualifications/Personal Qualities
BSc in relevant scientific subject (e.g. cell biology, biochemistry or molecular biology) or equivalent experience
Knowledge of cell culture, cell lines, primary cells and aseptic technique an advantage
Knowledge of Flow Cytometry equipment is essential
Excellent customer service focus and ability to work collaboratively
Clear and concise written and spoken communication skills
Problem-solving capabilities and ability to make clear decisions and good organisational skills
Self-motivated, energetic, dependable with and a clear attention to detail
Be a good team worker demonstrating loyalty and commitment to the team members. Ability to work independently
Computer literacy and able to communicate using various platforms
Ability to collaborate with other support teams
Experience working in a laboratory environment
Experience working with health and safety procedures
Physical/Mental Demands
The overall physical exertion of this position requires:
Sit or stand 4-5 hours a day in laboratory areas
Sit or stand 2-3 hours a day in office area at provided PC/Laptop
Work around moving laboratory equipment and machinery and in modern office arenas, undertaking several different tasks
Use of personal protective equipment in laboratory
Work with laboratory chemicals and samples
