ROLE POSITIONING AND OBJECTIVES

What are the key objectives and expectations from this role?

This role uses flavour science and develops sensory perception expertise to work on the development of new and innovative of new flavour technologies and flavour science approaches across a range of categories and platforms to support flavour development needs for flavour and sensorial building blocks via the discovery and innovation pipeline.


What is the direct impact of this role on the team or organization?

Works on the development and qualification of new flavour technologies and flavour science tools with the Senior Flavourist and Flavour Scientist II to deliver and support the business and product needs and develop own capability and that of less experienced flavourists.

WHAT YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR

  • Uses technical expertise to deliver work to develop and qualify flavour (aroma/taste/sensate) technology that meet the needs and specifications from flavour development, product discovery specifications to contribute to the delivery of proof-of-concept and proof-of-application products in the early phase of the innovation funnel.
  • Use flavour science or Open innovation Hubs with developing sensory expertise to support and develop new technology building blocks to meet novel or enhanced flavour discovery requirements and specifications.
  • Ensures the confidentiality of all flavour ingredients and compositions.
  • Maintains a methodical approach for lab accountabilities and maintains appropriate documentation following best practise to support IP protection where relevant.
  • Collaborate across functions including Flavour Development, Product Discovery, Consumer Product Safety, Product Compliance across categories and Analytical Science/Chemosensory Teams as well as external vendors, to support the delivery of successful outcomes within specified timelines.
  • Develops own skills and capabilities to enhance and to build the uniqueness and consistency of the BAT product flavours.


ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE


Experience Required

  • A background in food science, flavours, perfume or scents
  • Experience in flavour or fragrance development and/or analysis, sensory perception, and flavour science/chemistry
  • Developing knowledge and experience of flavour regulatory requirements
  • Project management, time management, team collaboration, and organizational skills


Technical / Functional / Leadership Skills Required

  • Expertise in the science and chemistry of flavours
  • Developing a sensory perception and experience of working with flavours and flavour combinations
  • Understanding of the regulations affecting flavour ingredients
  • Excellent Interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate with internal/external capabilities
  • Ability to plan and prioritise tasks based on business need


Education / Qualifications / Certifications Required

  • Degree-level qualification in a related field (Chemistry) and an understanding of flavour chemistry
