Main Purpose
We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join a premier team of Firefighters at the 423rd Civil Engineering
Squadron, Royal Air Force Alconbury, United Kingdom.
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Firefighter assigned to drive and operate firefighting vehicles of significant
complexity engaged in structural firefighting, rescue, and Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) operations and assist in reducing and/or
eliminating potential fire hazards and reacting to the presence or potential releases of hazardous materials as a first responder to protect
persons, property, or the environment. The firefighter will perform hazard and risk assessment techniques in completing initial incident
analysis; drive and operate firefighting vehicles, such as pumpers and aerial ladder trucks; perform structural firefighting duties for a
variety of facilities, which may include large multi storied buildings, industrial areas, and/or base storage facilities. In addition, they will
perform rescue of personnel and a variety of first aid measures to alleviate further injury and prepare the victim(s) for transport to a
medical facility; maintain firefighting equipment and fire station facilities and complies with health, safety, and environmental rules and
procedures performing work in a manner that enhances the safety of the work environment and perform dispatching duties with the Fire
Alarm Communications Center.

Knowledge and Experience Required
Applicants must demonstrate the following:
- Knowledge of basic and specialized structural firefighting equipment (fire alarm system operation, fire extinguishing equipment operation, etc.), techniques, and procedures; of basic and specialized building design, construction, and occupancy; to drive and operate firefighting vehicles of significant complexity; and of the principles of hydraulics as they pertain to water flow, water pressure, water levels, line(friction) losses, etc.
- Knowledge of hazardous materials emergency response procedures, equipment, and identification.
- Knowledge of emergency first aid techniques; and of safety requirements as outlined in applicable safety standards, regulations, and/or technical orders.
- Skill in operating communications equipment.
- Ability to maintain good working relations; and to communicate orally and in writing.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy loads; and to apply emergency first aid techniques.

- Hours of work: Start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with organization’s flexible working policies.
- Will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules, and regulations.
- Must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
- May be assigned other duties that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the employee.
- May be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training. Position may be coded as mission essential.
- A 6–12-month probationary period will be required.
- Overtime may be required.
- May be required to travel overnight to US or other countries in the performance of official duties or attend necessary train.
Other significant facts pertaining to this position are:
- Employee must participate in a mandatory physical fitness program which meets UK/US physical & medical requirements.
- Employee is required to use all safety equipment and clothing provided by management.
- The position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.
- Employee is required to be certified by the Department of Defense (DOD) Firefighter Certification System as
Firefighter I, II, HAZMAT Awareness, HAZMAT Operations and obtain certification in Driver Operator.
- The incumbent may be required to also obtain certification for Telecommunicator, Level I & II. Please note:
Training plans will be established and monitored by the supervisor and may specify the length of time the employee has to obtain certification. Some training may require recertification on a regular or intermittent basis.
- This position requires a valid LGV Cat C licence. Training to achieve can be provided.
- May be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training.
- Position is located at RAF Alconbury, but the incumbent may be required to work at the RAF Molesworth Fire
Station when directed by management.
- Mandatory retirement age for LNDH operational firefighter is age 60.
- Employee is requiring passing an annual medical examination.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain an appropriate security clearance.
