We are looking for an experienced Firearms Forensic Scientist to make a real difference in service delivery and be involved in shaping the future of our rapidly growing and ambitious company.
The role will encompass all aspects of forensic firearms and ammunition examination, with the opportunity for the successful candidate to gain competence in gunshot damage, crime scene/shooting incident reconstruction, post-mortem attendance, and the delivery of external training courses.
Furthermore, the role also includes the opportunity to undertake work for non-police customers and within the criminal defence arena.
Please note: To be eligible for this role you must be able to pass a SC/NVVP3 security clearance check. To gain this level of security clearance you must have been resident in the UK for a continuous period of 5 years.
Key Requirements:
- An established Firearms Forensic Scientist working for a forensic science organisation
- Competency in the examination and classification or firearms, ammunition and related materials
- Good working knowledge of UK firearms legislation and case law
- Proven ability to follow standard operating procedures
- Excellent casework management skills, including the ability to prioritise case work requirements and working to defined deadlines
- Customer focused, ensuring that the highest standards of customer service are maintained.
- Excellent team working skills
- Drive and determination to contribute to ongoing departmental improvement and help take the company forward.
Essential Skills:
- Experienced in operational delivery within a forensic science organisation
- A working knowledge of the requirements of ISO 17025 and the Forensic Regulators Codes of Practice and Conduct
- Current UK driving license
Desirable Skills:
- Experienced expert witness with relevant court experience
Training and Self Development:
Continued development and training support (internal and external providers) will be given to the successful candidate to provide them with the opportunity to progress their career in all aspects of forensic firearms examination, including range-of-fire determination, damage assessment, shooting scene reconstruction and post-mortem attendances
