POSITION SUMMARY

This position is a Co-op opportunity in our Finance department from September-April 2024.
The key responsibility of this role is to assist with the monthly demand forecasting process (RPP), which involves extraction, transformation, and load of data into models in order to develop a rolling 12-month sales forecast.

While the forecast is being generated through processes within IBM Planning Analytics, you will be required to look into trends and analyze market indicators and events that could affect demand and report findings in an internal Newsletter.

The second key accountability of this role is to support the annual budgeting process. The Analyst will assist the budgeting process by preparing an Industry Outlook Report (IOR) reporting on macro-economic indicators and third-party industry reports. The IOR (due October 1st) will be done with the assistance and under the supervision of the Financial Controller.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Demand Forecast
Oversee the monthly forecasting processes, primary responsibilities are as follows:

  • Up-keep of raw materials consumption database, including extract, analyze, transform & load data from IBM TM1 and IBM Cognos.
  • Assist in producing long-term demand forecast based on historical performance, market indicators, and industry expert knowledge. The candidate will be required to keep up to date with developments in the steel rod industry and provide summaries of important events.
  • Prepare materials for the monthly demand planning meetings with Sales, Production & Planning and Management team in the form of a Market Update report.

Annual Sales Budgeting
Support the annual sales budgeting process, primary responsibilities are as follows:

  • Research and analyze key macro-economic and relevant markets indicators.
  • Analyze historical sales performance and, together with above external indicators, provide insight on achievability of sales budgets.

Market Insights
Provide market insights, primary responsibilities are as follows:

  • Develop and maintain reporting dashboards and metrics to enable better analysis for Sales & Production Planning, on a monthly basis.
  • Monitor and maintain database information on market trends, business indicators, and industry and trade databases.
  • Analyze and understand the market, for the areas we operate in and the products we sell, and raise visibility to emerging needs of the business along with tracking of opportunities.

Other Responsibilities

  • Secondary responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Complete various Statistics Canada and the U.S. Census Bureau surveys.
  • Gather and analyze internal and external data (e.g. market data, public trade data, competitive analysis, secondary research sources, etc.) to formulate and support recommendations and business cases.
  • Produce presentation documents to support executive meetings with Board of Directors, external investors, etc.
  • Maintain an overview of key cross border trade issues (ie NAFTA).

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Enthusiasm for research and analysis.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Proficient in MS Excel.
  • 2nd year Accounting, Finance or Economics classes completed.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Power BI is considered an asset.
  • Understanding of API’s and their integration into databases is considered an asset.
  • Nice to have, but training will be provided on the job:
    • Knowledge of IBM Cognos
    • Knowledge of IBM Planning Analytics (TM1).
