What can I expect to do in this role?
Supporting the region in meeting their financial accountability and controllership requirements, you will:- provide financial forecasts and advice on budget availabilities
- coordinate and integrate regular financial reporting activities
- coordinate and integrate year-end financial reporting activities
- develop contract administration process mapping
- provide guidance relating to contract administration processes and financial issues
- prepare briefing notes in response to financial information requests
- lead and prepare a variety of regular and ad hoc reports
How do I qualify?
Financial Knowledge
- You have demonstrated knowledge of financial, accounting principles, policies and processes as well as knowledge of accrual accounting, controllership methods and best practices and an understanding of financial statements.
- You can acquire an understanding of the Ministry, organization, programs, priorities, and legislation.
Interpersonal, Communications and Consulting Skills
- You have proven oral and written communication skills to provide advice, discuss and resolve issues and prepare comprehensive reports, recommendations, correspondence, briefing notes and other materials.
- You have interpersonal, consultation and presentation skills to liaise to explain and interpret financial policies and requirements, to discuss and resolve issues.
- You have presentation and training skills to provide program staff with training and information on financial systems and processes.
Analytical, Problem-Solving and Decision-Making Skills
- You have analytical and decision-making skills in order to develop financial reports as well as financial and accounting procedures, practices, processes and controls to support controllership responsibilities.
- You have proven experience developing sound recommendations to resolve issues, ensure the accuracy and reasonableness of data and information provided and to interpret and explain the application of financial and accounting policies, processes, directives and practices.
- You have problem-solving skills to ensure compliance with project deliverables and timetables.
Organizational Skills
- You have organization, coordination and team leadership skills in order to plan and prioritize activities, provide direction to staff, coordinate the integration of information from multiple sources and ensure that frequently tight and conflicting deadlines are met.
Computer Skills
- You have well developed knowledge of financial information systems in order to obtain and analyze financial data and to prepare various reports.
- You can demonstrate your computer proficiency with PC based software such as spreadsheets, word processing and presentation software.

- The successful candidate will have the option of working from the following office locations: 347 Preston St, Ottawa or 135 N Front St, Belleville or 299 Concession St, Kingston or 901 Landsdowne St W, Peterborough or 132 Second St E, Cornwall or 615 Pembroke St E, Pembroke.
- Attendance at the office will be required in alignment with OPS' current hybrid work model.
