Job description
The role of Commercial Finance Analyst focuses on providing support to the Finance Business Partner(s) and Business to create value by improving the quality of decisions and ensure that a chosen Business strategy delivers the highest financial benefit at an acceptable level of risk. It will ensure the provision of robust financial reporting and analysis, planning and forecasts to the business and Group through working with the business teams and wider finance teams.
Location - Windsor or Stockport with flexible home working
This role works across the Protection portfolio (within Services & Solutions) and will be flexible across Contract, On Demand and FP&A activity depending on the teams priorities. This is the largest Pillar within Services and Solutions and is critical to our ongoing success. It is currently in an exciting period of change providing a great opportunity to learn.
This opportunity will provide:
- Experience of partnering with business areas such as marketing, pricing & risk
- Experience of developing commercial business cases from concept through to how to ensure it is set up correctly to report and monitor
- Exposure to the Margin forecasting including costs to widen understanding of how the business works.
- Exposure to Senior stakeholders within Services and Solutions
- Knowledge of the insurance industry and products
- Experience in business partnering in a commercial environment would be an advantage
Accountabilities
- Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders in the business and across finance
- Develop understanding of business strategy and its translation into financial impacts
- Develop understanding of key drivers of profit and cashflow, risks and opportunities, and be able to translate commercial performance into financial impact
- Provide robust insight and analysis to drive improvements in financial performance
- Support finance transformation activity through delivery of improvements in forecasting and reporting
- Produce standard finance deliverables to the agreed timeline and quality, supported by clear and focused explanations and messaging
- Regularly report performance against plans and forecasts, supporting business review of financial and operational variances to identify corrective actions
- Support delivery of accurate, efficient and transparent financial plans and forecasts
- Carry out non-standard / bespoke analysis to support business decision making and identify performance improvement interventions
Competencies
- Recognised accountancy qualification or passed finalist
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to pro-actively develop positive and highly effective working relationships
- Motivated by continuous improvement and delivering high quality outputs
- Ability to identify a problem and think through an approach to develop a solution
- Experience of providing commercial analysis and evaluation in a financial planning and analysis or business partnering role
- Strong IT skills (e.g. SAP, Excel, Power BI)
- Strong analytical skills with an ability to summarise complex data and matters and communicate effectively
- An interest in automation and use of new tools to analyse data and streamline processes
- Capable of managing multiple tasks in a high-pressure environment and working to tight deadlines
- Ability to identify, assess and analyse organisation wide operational risks and controls
