Purpose of job
We’re making some exciting changes in our Property Finance Team. We have created two new roles; Head of Property Finance for our Workplace Team and Head of Property Finance for our Lifestyle Team. Both roles will be responsible for the accounting and reporting for Service Charges and Managed Operations at a portfolio level for the specific area of the business that they partner with. You will also be responsible for managing a team of property accountants, business partnering with key stakeholders and overseeing your team’s property portfolio.
Principle accountabilities
Team management and leadership:
- Develop, manage and motivate a team of accountants, setting them up for success with a specific focus on performance and career development.
- Support the Head of Finance Operations to embed new ways of working within the team, ensuring that processes and systems are used effectively.
- Ownership of several key processes, including identifying inefficiencies and implementing improvements.
- Providing review and guidance to the wider property finance team.
Business Partnering:
- Business partner to the Senior Operations Teams and commercial finance team, being the first point of contact for property related operational finance matters.
- Business partner to the Operational Service Charge team.
- Liaise with site management teams on an on-going basis to monitor and review the service charge expenditure report, identify follow up actions to improve performance and deal with property/Service charge related finance queries.
Financial planning and analysis:
- Play a key role in the preparation of the annual service charge and managed operations budgets and booklets across the allocated portfolio, providing challenge and input.
- Provide input to the corporate budgeting process, business plans in respect of service charges and managed operations, offering support to portfolio and commercial finance teams for your team’s portfolio.
Reporting:
- Oversee the reconciliation of the year-end service charge and booklet production in accordance with RICS guidelines, assisting with commentary and explanations as required.
- Working closely with the Management Surveyors/Portfolio Managers and Site Teams, to ensure the Service Charge apportionment is kept up to date, always reflecting most up to date tenancies, floor areas, basis of apportionment, etc
- Oversee the month end process, ensuring all service charge, other property related costs and income and managed operations are correctly accounted for including tenant recharges, deferrals, prepayments and accruals for your team’s portfolio.
- Managing monthly and quarterly Service charge variance meetings with key stakeholders.
- Understanding the balance sheet accounts for each property and review analysis in respect of the closing balances and year to date movements for your team’s portfolio.
- Responsible for sign off on key controls relating to Service Charge.
General:
- Assist with ad hoc projects and/or analysis, additional reporting and special reviews as required.
- Develop a thorough understanding of the processes and systems used within the team and the wider finance teams/business.

Knowledge, experience and qualifications
Essential
- Qualified Accountant (ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent)
- Proven experience of effectively managing a team
- Experience of analysing and reporting results to senior management
- Able to demonstrate the ability to adjust communication style to fit the audience
- Ability to build strong relationships with key stakeholders
- Proven experience of successfully managing people through change
- Strong excel skills
Desirable
- Service charge accounting and reporting experience
- Knowledge of RICS Service Charges in Commercial Properties - Professional statement
- Previous property experience
Salary: Starting from £65,000 per annum + other benefits
