Overview
The Finance Coordinator is responsible for overseeing, coordinating and administering the financial records, systems and processes of The Conversation UK, including accounting, bookkeeping, payroll and benefits, record keeping, banking, insurance and all related financial administration.
This is a new role, as the charity has grown larger and more complex, and offers a proactive individual an opportunity to shape the role, and support The Conversation’s future growth. We currently use an external bookkeeping firm which will transfer our existing systems and processes to this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Monthly account reconciliation and other bookkeeping in Xero, and producing Management Accounts.
- Invoicing members and other partners, engaging with their accounts teams where necessary to resolve issues.
- Credit control, following up on overdue invoices.
- Managing and making payments in a timely, accurate way.
- Making salary, pension and expense payments to staff, freelancers, and providing support to staff for finance queries.
- Working with auditors, and helping produce necessary reporting to HMRC, Charity Commission, Companies House etc.
- Working with the CEO on budgeting, financial reporting.
- Supporting the growth of Universal Impact, The Conversation’s trading subsidiary.
Candidate Specifications
- An accounting qualification is desirable - Qualified or Part-Qualified ACCA / CIMA / CIMA.
- High level of IT competency, with Xero, Excel, Salesforce and online banking systems and tools.
- Ideally 3-5 years relevant experience within a finance environment.
- Direct experience of charity accounting and financial reporting is desirable.
- Experience working within the charity / not-for-profit sector would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of payroll practice and a full understanding of HMRC requirements.
- Knowledge of the financial and regulatory requirements of the charity sector.
- Good communication skills, including the ability to handle complex financial information and technical issues, presenting them in a clear and concise way.
- Experience of internal controls and audit.
- Charity SORP experience is desirable.
- Attention to detail.

Salary: £14,000.00-£16,000.00 per year
