The Opportunity
Adept is hiring an experienced Senior Packaging Engineer Consultant with industry experience in the Food and Beverage sector to support our client in the Greater Chicago area. This is a hybrid role, but the consultant must be able to go onsite 2 to 3 days a week.
The Engineer will be responsible for supporting the technical development of new packaging for all the company’s portfolio of products (new and existing) by conducting necessary lab evaluations, plant trials and in-field packaging tests. The consultant will be responsible for packaging from ideation through commercialization and continue with brand maintenance. The role will support internal and external manufacturing with technical expertise to maintain production.
Key Responsibilities
- Leads complex projects or assignments within large projects.
- Lead packaging qualification activities by generating packaging protocols, overseeing test execution, analyzing test data, and authoring qualification reports.
- Provide technical expertise for packaging risk assessments and failure mode/root cause analyses.
- Lead the improvement and standardization of packaging on existing products with focus on performance and cost effectiveness
- Plan and execute a design of experiments. Perform statistical analysis on data generated from experiments and write final reports.
- Initiate and coordinate packaging line trials including planning, conducting and post-trial activities.
- Partner with purchasing and production departments to determine costs and feasibility of producing proposed packaging
- Build internal and external relationships to effectively influence and gain support for initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in packaging engineering.
- 5-10 years packaging engineering experience.
- Technical depth on a packaging material, format, or process.
- Advanced understanding of the full packaging development and qualification process (or stage gate process).
- Advanced knowledge of resource planning for trials.
- Advanced understanding of project timeline development.
- Demonstrated effective communications (verbally and in writing) across internal and external teams.
- Demonstrated ability to multitask and manage time efficiently and effectively across multiple activities and tasks simultaneously.
