Job Purpose:
Responsible for multiple production lines the Area Leader works with Line Leaders to ensure teams in their area of responsibility deliver the daily operational plan
Area Leaders provide support, direction, monitoring and analysis to ensure the processes followed to manufacture our products meet the standards of quality and food safety expected by our customers.
Area Leaders are cost conscious, product quality and specification experts, safety champions, and leaders in the site strategy implementation.
Main Duties
Safety
· Ensures ‘Near Misses’ and ‘Accident/Incidents’ are recorded and reported
· Conduct Health and Safety walks in area and identify any safety concerns, resolve, or escalate if needed
· Complete accident investigations and ensure all accidents are recorded and escalated
Hygiene
· Complete regular visual GMP checks, challenge and implement corrective actions
· Promote teamwork and shared responsibility for Food Safety, quality and hygiene standards
· Ensure Food Safety Standards are always maintained
Quality
· Continually conduct line walks to monitor safety, hygiene, quality, quantity, and cost
· Be up to date on required specifications in areas of responsibility and ensure these are adhered to
· Complete visual checks online to ensure product placement, quality, weights, labelling, and sealing are
within specification
· Ensure non-conformances, and any incidents are reported and escalated as required
· Support customer audits and complete non-conformances
· Take responsible for quality and compliance with customer standards of final product
· Ensure paperwork is completed accurately and at time of checks
Quantity
· Accountability for lines exceeding the plan
· Hold Line leaders accountable for achieving efficient line start up times.
· Be fully aware of production plan for areas of responsibility and ensure Line Leaders are aware of
required targets, conduct monitoring throughout the production cycle
· Understand process and equipment in areas to ensure equipment is fully effective and productivity is
driven by Line Leaders
· Prepare back up plan to minimise the impact of downtime on productivity
· Actively participate in daily meetings providing status updates and escalating issues appropriately
· Ensure effective handovers
· Ensure SIC’s are carried out, reviewed and signed off
· Work with the NPD teams to run trials and implement new product production within areas, working
with Line Optimiser to identify best practice
· Lead problem solving activities using root cause analysis
Cost
· Monitor the collection and delivery of product in order to ensure optimum running and reduce downtime
· Ensure daily yield targets are being achieved and yield balancing is completed, and exceptions
Investigated
· Complete root cause analysis with the teams to identify corrective actions to eliminate waste, improve
efficiency and support in any continuous improvement activities
· Proactively monitor waste against targets
· Be cost conscious when staffing lines understanding impact of additional agency and overtime in areas
of responsibility
· Monitor material usage to understand waste within areas
· Support the line leader in calculating yield wins and losses, and corrective actions as required.
· Achieve KPI targets
People
· Provide support and encouragement to motivate Line Leaders and team
· Coach, lead and develop team to drive improvements
· Conduct regular team briefing, and ensure all direct reports are aware of performance and quality
achievements and challenges
· Understand Labour requirements for production lines, monitor absence, turnover and vacancies
· Conduct talent spotting to identify succession planning opportunities
· Build positive working relationships with team
· Show empathy and emotional intelligence when dealing with escalated welfare concerns
· Monitor targets and set self and team stretch targets
· Lead workplace change initiatives, encouraging buy in through involvement
· Ensure teams understand required targets and how to achieve these targets
Additional Activities

· Escalate issues to Shift Manager as appropriate
· Complete any additional activities as identified by the operational management teams
Requirements, Experience and Person Specification:
- Group and site induction.
- Previous FMCG manufacturing experience
- Previous experience of leading multiple teams
- Evidenced team leadership
- Level 2 H&S awareness.
- Food Safety Level 3
- Understanding of relevant risk assessments and safe working procedures.
- Understanding and application of hazard identification and near miss reporting.
