Our Finance Apprenticeship Scheme is a fast-track development programme designed to give you all the tools that you need to begin your career in Finance and learn the foundations of what makes a good Finance professional. Here at Dunelm, we are passionate about watching our colleagues grow, that’s why internal progression has an integral part to play in all our colleagues’ development. The 2-year programme will make sure you’re challenged, supported, and will give you plenty of room to grow. You will be buddied up with capable member of our Finance team, who were once in your shoes, so feel confident that you will learn from the best!
Over the 2-years, you will learn and experience every aspect of working as a Finance Assistant. You will work towards a role such as Commercial Finance Analyst, Management Accountant or Financial Accountant by the end of the programme. Alongside this, you will be enrolled on to a Level 3 Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship – equivalent to an advanced apprenticeship.
The finer details…
- You’ll start as a Finance Operations Assistant (Year 1) being fast-tracked to a Commercial Finance Analyst or Management Accounts Analyst (Year 2) where you will develop your skills and understanding of how Finance supports the wider business.
- Before starting this apprenticeship, you will need to complete a free 2 day bookkeeping course to ensure you have the best start.
- You will be designated 6 hours of learning per week, alongside 34 hours per week of working at Dunelm. You will be paid for all 40 hours.
- Dunelm have adopted a hybrid way of working with a ‘typical’ week for Apprentices being split as 3 days in the office and 2 days at home to ensure your development is looked after
- You will receive support on the job from your Dunelm team, Line Manager and dedicated L&D team. In addition, you’ll receive dedicated support from Kaplan for the qualification which will typically take 18 months to complete
- Much of the learning will take a blended approach consisting of Classroom, Live Online (virtual classroom) or On Demand (E-learning platform) from Kaplan.
- All successful apprentices are awarded a Level 3 Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship
- What next? If after 2 years, you have completed the Level 3 Apprenticeship, you’ll then have the opportunity to either go on to completing a Level 4 Accounting or Taxation Apprenticeship. Or a Level 7 Accountancy or Taxation Apprenticeship which would allow you to complete a CIMA or ACCA qualification which will be fully funded by Dunelm.
All we ask is that you fulfil the entry requirements below;
- A strong interest in a career in Finance.
- Strong verbal and numerical skills and interest in data and analysis will be advantageous
- A minimum of six GCSEs including Maths and English at Grades 5-9

Then you’ll go on to be invited to our Recruitment Assessment Day that will be held in our Store Support Centre in Syston. This will include a 1 to 1 interview, a task to be completed before the day to present back and a group exercise.
