Role Profile
As a Finance Assistant Apprentice within our Finance team, you will be responsible for assisting the team with junior accounting duties. You will have an incredible opportunity to be an integral part of the team responsible for maintaining an efficient and accurate finance function within our business, and to learn loads about the travel industry from the leading independent tour operator in the UK. You will have learning modules as part of your studies, which will lead to a nationally recognised and accredited (AAT) qualification, but also on the job training where you will roll your sleeves up and get stuck into a busy finance operation.
You will rotate around the Finance division, learning about everything from basic bookkeeping activities to management accounts, working with sales and purchase ledgers, running calculations to ensure that records and payments are correct, recording of cash and data entry. This is an all-encompassing role, which will set you up for a wonderful career with Newmarket Holidays and the wider travel industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with processing invoices and supplier payments
- Assist with processing expenses
- Assist with reconciliations
- Assist with debtor and creditor analysis
- Assist with profit analysis, demonstrating understanding of adverse and favourable variances
- Demonstrate understanding of costing, use of cost centres and coding systems
- Be aware always of how you are performing and strive to always do better.
- Take responsibility for your own learning, always seeking out new ways to learn and grow, for your own and the company’s benefit.
- Be open to giving and receiving great feedback from your managers and peers with a view to improving your performance.
- Be solutions focussed, always finding ways to do things better for our customers, our business, and our colleagues.
Who we are looking for
- Someone eager to learn about working in finance and in the travel industry
- Demonstrates passion and approach all tasks in an enthusiastic way
- Self-motivated and self-aware – recognises own development needs and is committed to personal growth
- Effective communication skills - written and verbal
- Computer literate – at least basic operation of MS Office applications – Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams
