Location: Newcastle upon Tyne
Hours: 10 -15 hours per week
Weekends and school holidays - flexible hours to be mutually agreed. Pick ups and drop offs.
Rate of Pay: £13.00 per hour
Brief details of the job:
To look after our 6-year-old son (U) in the home on a 1:1 basis or support family/other staff to take him out in the community on a 2:1 basis. To assist with a variety of tasks to enable him to live his personal and social life according to his wishes and interests.
You will need to be fit to keep up with him as he likes to run! He loves swimming, running, playing outdoors, adventure playgrounds, trampoline parks, soft play and bubble gum ice cream! U is Autistic with associated learning difficulties.
Social duties, support to:
- Access activities in the community such as visiting parks, Tim Lamb centre
- Access to swimming sessions
- Trampolining sessions
Personal care: support with bathing, showering, teeth cleaning, dressing and toileting
Domestic duties: serving nutritious meals and snacks, tidying.
These duties may vary from day-to-day.

Values: understanding and respecting cultural needs, reliable, punctual, non-judgemental, ability to build good relationships based on trust and respect, flexible and most of all be an excellent communicator.
Specific requirements: someone with an understanding of ASD and experience of dealing with challenging behaviour.
Skills, qualifications and experience:
Essential:
- good at building relationships, understanding and responding to challenging behaviour
- good at working as part of a team
- physical fitness and able to keep up with a fast 6-year-old
- specialist communication skills; understanding of PECS/ visual timetable, and a willingness to learn them.
- ability to support people with behaviours which challenge.
- keep calm under pressure
- driving licence, car and own insurance
Preferred: desirable skills, qualifications and experience:
- good communicator
- experience of working with autistic individuals
- experience of Positive Behaviour Support
- able to swim and run fast
Full training whilst initially working alongside a parent carer.
