Reporting to: Chief Operating Officer
Grade: Grade H SCP29 £35,411 to SCP 31 £37,261 (Negotiable depending on experience)
Hours: 37 hours per week All year-round Monday to Friday
Pension: Local Government Pension Scheme
Holidays: Start 23 days (Increasing to 27 days)
Start Date: ASAP

Job Description
Purpose of the post:
To lead, manage and promote on all aspects of health, safety and the environment affecting the Trust and its schools. Ensuring compliance with both legislation and Company Policies and Procedures to ensure a safe and healthy working environment for our children, colleagues and protecting the health and safety of those affected by our operations, including customers, visitors to our sites, and third parties.
The post holder will be responsible for all planned and reactive maintenance, legislative and regulatory compliance, fire safety and leading/managing the Facilities team.
Main duties & specific responsibilities:
✓ As the main key holder, be responsible for the security of the school premises
✓ Ensuring schools are completing/recording the regular checks on play equipment, legionella risk, alarm systems, ladders and fire extinguishers and report any problems arising
✓ Identify and report building, furniture, or fitting deficiencies to the Head teacher and to undertake any remedial action. This may involve arranging emergency repairs and obtaining quotes from contractors.
✓ Support caretakers/site managers with any range of handyperson duties (i.e., those not requiring a qualified craftsperson) as required, that contribute to the maintenance of the school premises (e.g., remedial painting and decorating, repairs to fittings and small-scale improvements, repairs to taps and cisterns, fitting shelves/ notice boards etc.)
✓ Escort contractors to site when required of repairs and maintenance and monitor the safety of their working practices/quality of work
✓ Monitor usage of fuel, electricity, water and take meter readings
✓ To create and manage a Trust/School focused HSE plan to ensure the Company's Health and Safety Policy and Arrangements are implemented consistently across the Trust.
✓ Support Trust with the development of, and promotion of the Company's strategy on health, safety, and the environment
✓ Support the development, implementation and monitoring of Company health, safety, and environmental management systems
✓ Ensure the Trust/Schools are meeting its legislative requirements by generating the relevant policies and procedures as well as ensuring all staff are aware of their legal obligations.
✓ Regularly keep the senior management informed of progress on the HSE business plan, and immediately raise any health, safety and environmental concerns with the CEO/COO and relevant Head Teacher.
✓ Promote a positive health and safety culture throughout the business; Working with others to increase awareness across all areas.
✓ Play an active role in the company change management process to ensure new initiatives/requests for potential changes to the business are assessed in respect of their HSE implications.
✓ Carry out regular health and safety audits, and manage the company risk assessment and risk control processes, to ensure they are legally compliant, business relevant and up-date
✓ To provide guidance and assist with the creation of safe systems of work for employees
✓ To provide facilities management at all our premises
✓ To liaise with external stakeholders such as external auditors, the Health & Safety Executive, Environment
Agency, Fire Authorities
✓ Co-ordinate all aspects of pollution control, waste management, recycling, environmental health, conservation, and renewable energy
✓ Other reasonable duties linking to the Facilities, health and safety and compliance across the trust and its schools.
✓ Comply with the requirements of Health and Safety at Work regulations
✓ Train and induct any new members of the facilities team.
✓ Lead any CIF bid projects whilst liaising both with internal and external stakeholders.
✓ Perform duties in line with health and Safety and COSHH regulations and act where hazards are identified, reporting serious hazards immediately to the Head teacher or other senior person
✓ Performance Management of Staff
✓ Full ownership of the facilities workload throughout schools and liaise with relevant stakeholders to ensure smooth running of the school.
✓ Report Key Performance Indictors to management and trustees.

Knowledge and Skills
✓ Willingness to undertake training, possibly off site and to attend meetings required to satisfactorily carry out the above requirements
✓ NEBOSH National Certificate in Occupational Safety & Health or equivalent
✓ Experience of working in a formal health and safety role
✓ Good knowledge of HSE legislation & regulations
✓ Membership of IOSH
✓ Experience working in a similar role/environment is desirable

✓ Committed to continued education/ training including an environmental qualification/CDM training if not already achieved

Supervision and Management
✓ The post holder will often be required to work without direct supervision i.e., during school holidays, following lone working guidelines as necessary
✓ The post holder will be responsible for supervising the facilities team with the support of the COO and CEO

✓ Build positive relationships with school staff, responding willingly to reasonable requests for assistance
✓ Be prepared to be flexible
✓ Be prepared to visit all Trust schools.
✓ Work closely with the CEO/CEO and Head Teachers
