Job description

As a Software Engineer, you will be a crucial member of our IT team at Portsmouth Water at an incredibly exciting time, where we are embarking on a digital transformation journey which will revolutionise the way we interact with our customers and operate our business. With exciting large technology transformation programmes to smaller quick-fire innovations on the agenda, the role will encompass all types and methods of technology and business change.

This role is to collaborate with an experienced small team, where you will have the chance to make a real impact, drive innovation as we move into the cloud and adopt a data driven, plus agile approach to achieve our company objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Work in an agile manner to design, build, deliver, test, and support systems using the latest techniques and technologies.
  • Build up technical knowledge of the company’s existing products, any new product and project developments.
  • Take responsibility for ensuring work packages are completed on schedule and within budget.
  • Working with cross-functional project teams participating as a subject matter expert for IT.
  • Assist with the setup up/design of tracking and managing changes to software code, and CI/CD pipeline.
  • Be pro-active in keeping products up to date with evolving technologies.

Qualifications and experience

Essential

  • Proven experience in design, development, test, integration of quality software and maintaining thorough documentation.
  • Experience with C#, .NET framework, Visual Studio, Python, Git and other development tools.
  • Experience in designing and implementing integration solutions using Microsoft Azure, including Azure Functions and familiarity of DevOps pipelines • Strong understanding of RESTful APIs, JSON, XML, SOAP, and other web services protocols.
  • Knowledge of Git or similar version control tools
  • Apply your problem-solving skills to overcome technical challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to engage with the team, stakeholders, and product owners.

Desirable

  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or another related field
  • ERP (IFS) and GIS (ESRI) integration experience.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and Oracle databases.
  • Experience of and ability to program using Progress 4GL tools and environment.
