The opportunity:
The Communications and Events Coordinator will work with the Blueprint Manager, Manager of Community Partnerships, and other team members to effectively communicate the work being undertaken through the newly established EleV partnership. This position will be responsible for the promotion of EleV initiatives and events including communicating and serving as a liaison with faculty members, students, staff, senior administrators, alumni, Blueprint partners, Indigenous governments, communities and organizations, and the public. The Communications & Events Coordinator is responsible to plan, organize, execute and manage events for EleV initiatives. This position will also liaise with Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities both on and off-campus, national stakeholders, and university departments to ensure the events are well attended and successful. The Communications and Events Coordinator will also work directly with the Marketing Communications Office and others in External Relations to effectively promote special projects and announcements.
The qualifications and experience we’re looking for:

- Undergraduate Bachelors degree required (communications/journalism preferred).
- One year of directly related communications experience required.
- Experience in coordinating projects and events and working collaboratively with others is required.
- Extensive experience, knowledge, competency with respect to Indigenous cultures and histories.
- Experience working with diverse Indigenous nations, communities, organizations.
- Experience in communication planning and preparing and delivering communication materials (print and digital).
- Experience with web content creation and management.
- Experience in developing and implementing social media strategies.
- Experience in marketing programs and promoting events.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills (verbal and written) required.
- Superior writing and proof reading skills.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills required.
- Advanced level of proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, OneNote) required.
- Excellent photography skills required.
- Knowledge of Photoshop, InDesign, Drupal, WordPress, and social media (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) and/or the ability to learn and adapt to new computer and web programs, and social media trends quickly preferred.
- Ability to be highly organized, task and detail oriented, capable of meeting tight deadlines required.
- Demonstrated ability to work in close collaboration and partnership with academic and administrative colleagues, students, alumni, Elders, and community partners required.
- Ability to think critically and creatively required.
- Ability to work independently required.
- Must have a demonstrated ability to deal with high demand and/or stressful contacts.
- Must have a strong work ethic and be willing to take the initiative to solve problems and learn new tasks.
- Attention to detail is essential.
- Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
- Knowledge of the university’s financial system Aurora (EPIC, Concur, Fast Finance).
- High energy level and a positive attitude, enjoys challenges, and copes well with change.
