Job description

Britplas is a leading UK contractor specialising in commercial glazing with a product portfolio that includes windows, curtain walling, door systems and security fencing.

To provide exemplary administration and support to the Estimating Team including construction contracting and associated supply chain subcontractors. Construction Contracting Operations Technicians operate in a range of settings including estimating, planning, buying, site, quantity surveying and design and build roles.

You will need to demonstrate your enthusiasm for working as an apprentice estimator in a busy commercial glazing and curtain walling façade business as well as a willingness to apply yourself in a workplace environment.

Job Description

  • Product detailed take off of buildings.
  • Liaising with supply chain
  • Document control
  • Uploading enquiries to Deltek and Issuing enquiries
  • Administering estimating software, Logikal
  • Research and identify new business opportunities.
  • Provide exemplary customer service to prospects and existing clients, ensuring deadlines are met and efficient communication.
  • Follow up leads in a timely manner as allocated to you.
  • Attend client meetings, site visits to assist with surveys or events as requested.
  • Apply sustainable principles and low carbon processes in order to implement site environmental solutions.
  • Follow all set workflows and processes as set for the department and by your Line Manager
  • Utilise and ensure the CRM/Project Management system is up to date at all times with accurate activity, pipeline and information.
  • To use MS office and other packages to complete Estimation Documents in line with company processes
  • Meet all KPI’s as allocated.
  • Be proactive in ensuring you are up to date with all product information, pricing, and specification details.
  • Keep up to date with training and apprenticeship requirements.
  • As a representative of Britplas you are expected to present yourself and your team to the highest standards and strive to deliver excellent levels of customer service.
  • Maintain good communication with the staff in the office and factory to enable successful co-ordination of scheduling and sharing of information.
  • To carry out any further duties that may be reasonably requested of you.

Organisational Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures as instructed.
  • To ensure that all H&S rules are adhered to at all times, without exception. Including wearing of any PPE that is provided to you.
  • Carry out all training provided to deadlines prescribed.
  • Execute the responsibilities of a company employee acting in a lawful and ethical manner in accordance with your contract of employment and Employee handbook.
  • Work with your Line Manager to manage your own professional development, including performance appraisal and identifying and meeting training needs to ensure competence and compliance.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

The qualification you will gain is: Construction Support Technician Level 3

  • Construction Support Technician- Skills, Knowledge & Behaviours – delivered in the workplace.
  • Specialist Training Programme Blocks of your choice in AutoCAD & Auto Desk Revit (Optional Added value training)

End Point Assessment:

  • Technical report with Question-and-Answer session
  • Professional interview with a portfolio of evidence

Apprentices must show commitment to the following:

  • To achieve apprenticeship standard within the specified time frame
  • Attend the apprenticeship induction programme
  • Attend all of the training sessions for the programme whenever necessary
  • Undertake any other required development work as part of the apprenticeship programme as requested
  • Any other duties as deemed appropriate by senior staff.

Desired qualifications required:

  • GCSE grade 9-4 (A*-C) or equivalent GCSE grade in Maths, English & Science

Future prospects / Career prospects

  • Possible progression onto an advanced level in all fields of design, engineering or Quantity Surveying in construction, including degree apprenticeships.

Driving License is not an essential but is an advantage.
