We are looking for a friendly, well organised and adaptable EO Human Resources Administration Officer to join our encouraging and welcoming team based at Plymouth Science Park, 1 Davy road, Derriford Plymouth.

The vacant post is a full-time position at 37 hours per week. Requests to work flexibly and/or part time will be considered, taking into account business needs.

Job description

As the successful candidate, you will be supervising the Joint Administration Office pay and travel sections, so that staff and material resources are utilised in the most efficient manner to the standards laid down by the Joint Hospital Group (South West) Commanding Officer.

You will have the ability to cope well under pressure, be flexible and assertive and be able to communicate at all levels.

Person specification

Main duties of the role will include but are not limited to:

  • Act as Tier 1 for Compliancy Management checks and controls.

  • Act as Joint Administration Office training lead.

  • Provide advice and support in relation to pay, allowance and travel entitlements in line with current regulations.

  • Exercise functional and line authority over the Joint Administration Office subordinates.

  • Joint Personnel Administration unit role as Unit Establishment Administrator, Expense Authoriser 2, Allowances Checker, Unit Human Resource Administrator and Human Resource Discipline.


  • Appraisals administrator for Service Person’s Joint Appraisal Reports. Act as appraisals administrator for Officers’ Joint Appraisal Reports in the absence of the First Lieutenant.

Essential:

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft (MS) Suite of applications.
  • NVQ Level 2 in Business Administration
  • GCSE Maths and English or equivalent
  • Experience in Supervising others

This job role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is an informal, non-contractual and voluntary arrangement, blending a balance of attendance in the workplace (your permanent duty station which is based on business assessment of where the work is best done) and working from home as a personal choice (if the role is suitable for this). If you are successful, any opportunities for hybrid working will be discussed with you prior to you taking up your post.
