Stantec’s Water Resources team of hydrologists and hydrogeologists is looking to recruit an Environmental Monitoring and Site Technician to carry out surface water, gas and groundwater monitoring and related activities on sites located predominantly in the Midlands.

Stantec has a wide portfolio of clients in a number of sectors including rail, transport, water, and property, but the team works mainly for the water companies in the UK. We are particularly proud of the work that we have undertaken supporting environmental programmes, working for most of the water companies in the UK, and we have grown our team considerably across the south and midlands of England. We are keen to continue growing, and innovating, to deliver the most critical data to clients in a timely manner. Growing our people and delivering exciting, interesting work to do is key to our success. You will support our team, receive extensive training, and be exposed to a large team of highly specialised hydrologists and hydrogeologists providing you the opportunities to develop your skills in the environmental field.

Experienced in or keen to learn flow and level monitoring, and water sampling you will be an integral part of the wider environmental team, as well as working closely with the water design and engineering teams. The successful candidate will need to be happy to spend the majority of their time on site, and travelling to, from or between sites around the Midlands and South of England. Early starts and/or overnight stays away may be required. Ideally you will have previous site experience, but this is not essential.

Location: Shrewsbury or Redditch

Duties will include:

  • Site Work
  • National travel
  • Water sampling
  • Soil validation sampling
  • Quality assurance and data validation
  • Maintaining testing and sampling equipment
  • Assisting with related site operations including collections and deliveries
  • Liaising with Clients, other contractors and members of the public on site.
  • Organising and carrying out work in an efficient and timely manner

We need someone who:

  • Is committed to working safely and has strong health and safety awareness
  • Has the desire to learn and develop
  • Is willing to work outdoors in variable weather conditions
  • Has a minimum of A Level grade C in Sciences or Geography, plus English and Maths at GCSE
  • Previous experience of environmental monitoring for environmental projects is beneficial
  • We are also open to applications from new graduates with a BSc in Environmental Sciences, Geography or Geology and no experience.
  • Has a flexible approach to working hours and a good timekeeper
  • Is a great team player
  • Must be literate and numerate and capable of completing basic paperwork and app-based forms on a company provided smart phone
  • Full clean UK driving licence is essential
