A day in the life of…an Engineering Technician
As an Engineering Technician your primary role will be completing planned maintenance activities as a preventative measure to reduce breakdowns and improve line performance.
The factory is moving forward with continuous improvement principles and actively developing TPM processes so it’s an exciting time to be involved, and it is expected that you will play a key part in the move from reactive to proactive maintenance.
Planned maintenance will often involve inspecting parts and identifying signs that premature failure may be imminent, such as wear, impact damage and degradation of seals etc. so as to maximise line performance by reducing breakdowns and deterioration. You will be working to optimise maintenance of machinery and assets, by feeding back necessary improvements to the frequency and content of the maintenance activities.
Whilst most of the work in the role will be planned there may be occasions on which you are required to respond to breakdowns within the plant, working with shift technicians and operators to help diagnose faults.
Other responsibilities:
- Driving the use of break down analysis to continuously improve asset intensity.
- Technicians are required to have a problem-solving and continuous improvement mindset to find the root cause of failures and put in preventative measures to prevent reoccurrence of repeat failures.
- You will be required to record all work activities to a detailed level for the purposes of looking after all aspects of cost, efficiency, quality and maintenance activities.
- Contributing to the upkeep and improvement of all relevant technical documentation.
- Raising purchase orders where required, liaising with the Maintenance co-ordinator to ensure that appropriate stock levels are maintained within budgetary constraints.
- Support maintenance engineers to complete remedial actions from Compliance audits.
- Ensuring adherence to all health and safety as well as hygiene and food safety standards whilst conducting maintenance and repair activities.
What will make you successful?
- Must have a Mechanical background. Multi-Skilled Engineers will be considered but must have Mechanical bias.
- Strong experience is desirable but must also be keen to learn new processes and overcome new obstacles.
- Experience of various types of Workshop Equipment e.g Lathes, Millers, Welders are essential.
- Must have an ONC/HNC in Engineering or equivalent, as well as a time served apprenticeship and have working experience in Process Manufacturing.
