Summary of Key Duties for this position:
- Performs a variety of duties in the electronic, mechanical, electromechanical, and/or optical areas. This includes fabrication of test racks, components, circuit cards and harnesses in support IRAD and CRAD projects.
- Constructs, troubleshoots, calibrates, adjusts, tests, diagnoses, and maintains equipment, components, devices, or systems.
- Works from schematics, engineering drawings, sketches, lab notes and written or verbal instructions.
- Operates related equipment; conducts tests and reports data in prescribed format.
- Performs calibration and alignment checks; makes adjustments, modifications, and replacements as directed; prepares prescribed compounds and solutions.
- Usually works without established procedures, performing a wide variety of nonstandard complex tasks using advanced techniques and requiring extensive knowledge of discipline.
- Analyzes requirements for special projects and recommends methods and processes to accomplish.
- Conducts research and assists in investigational studies.
- Supports the design/development of new or modified equipment or methods/systems for improved performance through analysis and check-out.
- Evaluates and resolves calibrating and troubleshooting problems.
- Assist EO Engineers in the set-up and assembly of optical benches.
- May be expected to hold and executing AESOP huddles.
- Perform detailed mathematical calculations using established formulas and preliminary analyses of data where guidelines are provided.
- May conduct tests and record data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis.
- Leads and mentors others and lower level employees, may assign work and schedule work flow.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by engineers, scientists or member of management.
- Must be able to work overtime when required.
REQUIRED:
- Hands-on experience with electro-mechanical assemblies.
- Hands-on experience with electrical components including circuit cards, components, racks and harnesses.
- Able to interpret engineering drawings, process specifications and wiring diagrams.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products to include Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
- Experience with written communications including technical writing.
- Must be able to obtain the following certifications to remain eligible for the position after starting: SSC NASA Polymerics, SSC Adhesive Bonding, SSC JSTD001MAP, SSC Hardware Torquing, SSC NASA Cable/Harness, and SSC Connector Mate/DeMate.
Desired Skills:
- Past work experience in a Research and Development work environment.
- Experience with SAP, VE-CAMS, Bills of Materials, Routers, and QNotes (Nonconformances).
- Familiarity with LM Space Tools to include EPDM, PMP Database, ESH Database, and MAP Specifications.
- Experience with problem-solving techniques to resolve quality or process issues.
- Advanced software skills to include VBA, MS Access, Excel macros, JAVA, SharePoint, etc.
- Lean Manufacturing or 6-Sigma experience.
- Experience creating and maintaining work instructions.
