Position Objective
The GDUK Engineering Apprenticeship Scheme will operate over a three year period and will enable the individual to gain an appreciation of the Software Engineering discipline within GDUK which are:
- Software
The apprentice will also get the opportunity to work across multiple engineering Software development phases and gain knowledge and skills in requirements capture, software design, implementation and test.
There will be 2 semesters per year and each semester is split into a teaching phase and a work-based learning phase.
The teaching phase runs for 6-7 weeks with emphasis on academic and theoretical skills practiced in the classroom environment. Apprentices will be expected to attend three days per week at University and two days per week in Oakdale.
The work-based learning phase runs for 7-8 weeks with these skills applied in the workplace where apprentices will spend most of their time. However, there will be some sessions delivered at University which apprentices are welcome to attend.
During University recess the apprentice would be based at their place of work full-time. There may also be some compulsory attendance at the University for class tests, examinations and presentations

Discipline Description
Undertake a range of tasks suited to the current level of training and development- Attend college and complete course work on time and to a high standard
- Produce, maintain and be responsible for content, accuracy and sign off of log books
- Take on additional responsibility in Year 3 of the Apprenticeship
- Understand and complete all work related documentation accurately and on time
- Understand and comply with policies and procedures
- Carry out work in a safe and diligent manner
- Comply with all Health & Safety policies and procedures
- Attend and fully participate regular training and development reviews with line management, mentor and HR representatives
- To undertake additional duties in line with capabilities as required
- Learn to interpret functional and non-functional software requirements and how to embody them in software designs.
- Gain an understanding of how to develop and update software solutions, using the common programming languages
- Develop key skills in fault isolation and system root cause analysis.
- Have the ability under supervision to perform basic software tasks across all phases of the software development lifecycle : Requirements analysis, architectural design, implementation and test

Required Education & Experience
A minimum of A-levels or equivalent.
Grades ABB-BBB, with a B in Maths and English Language at A-Level.
Mature applicants (21+) without A-levels can also be considered on professional experience.
