You will join our District Energy Department
Ramboll is an international leader in the field of District Energy. In the UK, we have been at the forefront of developments in district heating since 1990s’. In this area we provide a one-stop shop of services based on unique knowledge and experience gained from a large number of projects, unmatched by other consultancies. We have provided consultancy services to more than 200 district heating systems worldwide, ranging from small village schemes to city-wide transmission networks.
As our new District Energy Engineer, you will be part of a dynamic and growing team, working on both national and international projects in collaboration with colleagues in Denmark, North America and other international businesses.
Our team’s market focus covers the full spectrum of district energy solutions; however, we are particularly in the district heating and district cooling sector which is projected to grow significantly in the UK in response to national targets to decarbonise heat. Ramboll is a recognized leader in the district heating and cooling sector, with decades of experience, and as such we play a key role in driving growth in the sector in the UK.
Your key tasks and responsibility will include:
- Supporting the team in delivering district energy projects ranging from feasibility to design; working on technical reports, producing calculations and drawings, and developing specifications.
- Supporting the Project Managers and take on individual tasks, including managing client relationships, project budgets, team resources.
- Supporting the Department in business development activities by supporting bid managers to write bids.
Your key deliverables within the first 12 months will be:
- Participate in a number of district energy projects and develop a successful track record of delivering quality and customer satisfaction
- Develop technical engineering skills in relevant software packages and design tools; some will be common to industry, and some are Ramboll specific.
- Proactively engage with the wider team and become a reliable and trusted member of the team.
Your starting point for constant growth

- A post-graduate degree in mechanical, chemical, electrical, process, or energy engineering.
- A basic understanding of a wide range of low carbon technologies associated with heating and cooling.
- Experience in engineering desing projects, ideally design of mechanical systems such as combined heat and power (CHP), heat pumps, boilers, pumping, and/or ventilation systems.
- Some experience in the use of packaged software tools such as Energy Modelling, Hydrology Modelling, CAD and GIS.
- Working towards Chartered status within a recognised Professional Institution.

- Ability to work in collaboratively and multitask with large volumes of work
- Effective business/technical communication and interpersonal skills
