Trina Solar International System Business Unit (ISBU) is the project development and investment business unit of Trina Solar, a global leader of smart energy solutions provider. Our team has established a track record of 5.5+ GW of grid-connected projects globally.
Trina Solar US Project Development & Investment team is looking for a highly accomplished Project Development Engineering Manager to join our growing team. Reporting to the Head of Project Development, the engineer will work with cross-functional teams to deliver successful Renewable Energy solar and storage projects.
Main Responsibilities:
- Conduct technical DD to support project development team on site feasibility and viability
- Identifies appropriate interconnection points on the grid, submits interconnection requests to the applicable utility/ISO/RTO, interprets interconnection study results and negotiates with the utility to identify economic interconnection solutions
- Lead to develop PV and BESS system sitting strategy and plan based on the power supply and demand, distribution, and transmission constraints
- Lead to set the development strategy to minimize the cost for interconnection costs
- Manage a portfolio of utility interconnection applications from initial submission through fully executed Interconnection Service Agreements
- Creation of preliminary project designs along with accompanying production forecasts in PV Syst/Supports the modeling of project economics by supplying technical model inputs
- Provide engineering input and cost estimates for distribution level and transmission interconnection applications
- Perform distribution and transmission grid assessments to determine commercial viability of potential projects
- Assess storage technology and site location with respect to deliver maximum potential project value while minimizing execution and operating risks
- Supports the project sale process by answering technical due diligence questions from potential buyers, including working with 3rd party independent engineers to verify technical assumptions
- Management of 3rd party engineering consultants; including selection, price, scope and schedule negotiation, and deliverables acceptance
- Support for Request for Proposals (RFP) and support proposal development
- Assist to review transmission and ISO related technical parts of Power Purchase Agreements
- Manage multiple complex projects simultaneously with minimal review and oversight
- Supports project acquisition due-diligence process
Relevant Experience:
- Track record of successfully supporting origination, development, and sale of solar and storage projects
- Four-year college engineering degree
- 5+ years’ experience (or equivalent) in: the renewable energy electric industry; renewable energy project development and grid interconnection
- Analysis and design applications for solar and energy storage systems
- Broad technical understanding of solar project development, including the ability to perform cost-benefit analyses of design variants to optimize economic outcomes
- Strong understanding of the technical requirements for specific projects, as well as industry trends in design, engineering solutions, equipment types, and technical risks
- Knowledge of medium voltage distribution and transmission systems a plus
Skills and Competence:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent field from an accredited college or university, emphasis in power system preferred
- 5+ years engineering experience in utility or power sector, PV, or wind, industry
- Understanding of electricity market policy and rules with respect to interconnection and transmission planning
- Strong understanding of utility and ISO operations and transmission planning process
- Ability to simultaneously support multiple development projects across multiple states and regions
- Familiarity with storage and renewable trends in the electric market
- knowledge of energy storage value proposition and/or engineering and/or fundamentals of energy storage projects
- Able to interact effectively across organizational boundaries to achieve goals and meet deadlines
- Engineering, analytical, and technical writing skills
- High attention to detail and strong organization skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
