General Description:
The ideal candidate will have a B.S. or M.S. in Materials Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or a related field. The individual will design, conduct, and report testing on various technical textiles, composites, and complex assemblies with a supporting team. Testing and reporting experience are highly desired. The candidate will apply materials science to technically challenging problems, to evaluate state of the art technologies for implementation, and to design complex maritime assemblies. Additional responsibilities include engineering materials processing improvements and analysis of material systems and structures. Strong engineering fundamentals, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and in a team are required to be successful in this position.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute material, component, and assembly testing.
- Perform data analysis and present work through written reports and formal presentations.
- Apply materials knowledge (corrosion, solid mechanics, material properties, etc) to design.
- Support improvements to manufacturing and fabrication processes.
- Analyze and investigate new advanced materials and technologies.
- Support multi-disciplinary integrated teams by selecting appropriate materials and performing design and analysis tasks.
Required Education/Experience/Skills:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent from an accredited college or university and 2+ years of relevant experience. A Master’s degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent may substitute for 2 years’ experience.
- Familiarity with finite element software such as Abaqus, ANSYS, and Nastran.
- Some knowledge of composite manufacturing and/or design.
- Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks and Rhino.
- Familiarity with other engineering software such as MATLAB.
- Knowledge of finite element analysis theory and methods and experience using commercial FEA products.
- Experience with one or more coding/scripting languages such as C++, Fortran, or Python.
Desired Skills:
- Experience in design and engineering of maritime systems
- Experience with textile manufacturing, design, and testing (i.e., ASTM D751)
- Experience with additive manufacturing
- Training or experience with polymers used as coatings, matrices, or reinforcements
Other Position Requirements:
- Employment is contingent upon successfully passing an employee background check and post-offer drug screen.
- Must be a U.S Citizen with a SECRET clearance or the ability to obtain a SECRET clearance.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $75,877.68 - $91,379.57 per year
