About us

The Chapel Medical Centre managed and operated by EBPC in Slough, boasts a passionate team of Nurses, Doctors, and Pharmacists, plus an array of health professionals dedicated to providing tailored medical care. Such expertise includes Physio sessions and Social Prescribing and Health and Well-being support from experienced coaches.

EBPC is a not-for-profit social enterprise providing a wide range of NHS Urgent and Primary Care services. East Berkshire Primary Care Out of Hours (EBPC), founded as a GP out-of-hours service in 1997, is now a provider of choice for Urgent and Primary care services, delivering high-quality, cost-effective care. Our 400-strong team of dedicated professionals deliver more than 20 independent services, including GP Practice,111 CAS, Out-of-Hours Primary Care, and PCN service delivery.

An at-scale call centre support function commissioned directly by PCNs, ICBs or NHSE.

Duties and responsibilities:

· NHS health checks and new patient checks

· ECG recording

· Phlebotomy

· Assisting the Nurse with annual reviews; of hypertension, CHD, Stroke and Peripheral Arterial Disease.

· Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required under the supervision of the EBPC Nurse

· When trained, administer flu vaccinations.

· Chaperoning duties

· Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses

· Sterilising, cleansing and maintenance of surgical equipment.

· Vaccine/cold chain storage monitoring and recording of fridge temperatures.

· Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms

· Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients' health and wellbeing

· Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and explicitly taught concerning that individual

· Helping to raise awareness of health and wellbeing and how it can be promoted

· Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and wellbeing

· Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced following the EBPC IPC policy.

Role Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Healthcare qualification or equivalent level
  • Phlebotomy certification

Desirable

  • Ear Syringing Certification
  • Experience

Essential

  • Six months of relevant experience working in a primary care environment in the last two years
  • Experience working with the general public.
  • Experience working in a healthcare setting.

Clinical Knowledge & Skills

Essential

  • Immunisation (flu)
  • Dressings
  • Venepuncture
  • New patient medicals, including height, weight, BP, pulse.
  • Ability to record accurate clinical notes.

Desirable

  • Treatment of small injuries
  • Wound Care / Removal of sutures & staples
  • ECGs
  • Chaperone procedure
  • Spirometry

General Skills

Essential

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
  • Strong IT skills
  • Clear, polite telephone manner
  • Competent in the use of patient record management systems: EMIS
  • Effective time management (Planning & Organising)
  • Ability to work as a team member and autonomously.
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to follow clinical policy and procedure.

Health and Safety:

In addition, the post holder must be aware of individual responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act and identify and report, as necessary, any untoward accident, incident, or potentially hazardous environment.

EBPC's responsibility is to ensure that staff can work in a safe and conducive working environment.

Responsibilities regarding Health and Safety and staff welfare legislation and best practice are fulfilled throughout their area of responsibility.

This will also include undertaking Risk Assessments as and when required.

Infection Prevention and Control:

You will be expected to cooperate with colleagues, contractors, and other healthcare providers involved in patient care directly or indirectly so far as necessary to enable EBPC to meet its obligations under the Health and Social Care Act 2008.

Under Section 11 of the Children Act (2004) and Department of Health guidance 'No secrets' (2000). EBPC is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of Children, Young People and Adults.

All staff working with these groups are expected to share a commitment to this.

Therefore, per the agreed policy and procedures, you will be expected to promptly report concerns concerning safeguarding children, young people and/or adults.

If your conduct concerning the safeguarding of children, young people or adults gives cause for concern, the agreed Public Protection Procedures will be followed, alongside the implementation of the Disciplinary Procedure where appropriate.
