Overall Position Summary

This entry level engineering position would evolve into an advancement opportunity using the Job Rotation methodology. This position involves the following customized assignments for the candidate to view the entire business from a first-hand experience. The following assignments would include the candidate spending their first two years working in one of the following departments:

  • Manufacturing Engineering
  • Plastics Process Engineering
  • Quality Engineering
  • Tool Engineering

After a minimum of two years in the selected department, the individual would transition to a different department (listed above). Department selection would be based on associate’s skill sets and company needs at that time. Transition to the other departments would be completed in subsequent years with a minimum of one year in each. After completion of a minimum of 3 departments, Program Management would be added as an option.

Upon completion of all 5 genres, the associate would transition to a department mutually decided upon between the associate and the Atalys Engineering Management Team.

One or more of the one-year rotations could take place at a facility other than the Rochester Emerson Street facility, if agreed upon by both parties. This could include the Rochester Tooling Facility, Asheboro, North Carolina Manufacturing Facility, Santo Domingo, DR Manufacturing Facility, or any facilities yet to be determined.

The overall goal of this position, would be for the candidate to fulfill the role of each of the respective engineering disciplines with the intent to learn and develop the skills necessary for further advancement/promotional opportunities within the company.

Manufacturing Engineering Position Summary

Utilize knowledge to support new program launches and sustaining operations in plastics injection molding and related assembly processes. Provide support to manufacturing in producing product in the most cost effective and efficient ways possible.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implement processes and procedures for producing parts as part of new program launches.
  • Coordinate purchase and build of new equipment required to support production.
  • Write validation protocols and procedures for new equipment to support customer and internal requirements.
  • Coordinate and complete validation of new equipment. (Automation, controls, vision inspection, etc.)
  • Work closely with operations to ensure operators are properly trained on processes required for production of new components.
  • Work directly on workplace layouts, manning requirements, material flow and various other activities.
  • Lead continuous improvement, process improvement, lean manufacturing and 5S events.
  • Reduce labor costs through process improvements/kaizen.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Plastics Process Engineering Position Summary

Responsible for injection molding process development. Will work on the production floor with injection molding machinery and be responsible for the sample of new Molds and Multi Shot Applications, the optimization and documentation of a recommended process, the liaison between the Tool Engineer and the Manufacturing Engineer, and lastly be an integral member of the Project Team that covers all aspects of New Product Launches.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains cycle and process integrity.
  • Works with tool engineers to develop processes for new tools. Processes will be developed using Scientific Molding Theory. Other analytical tools (such as DOE’s, Shear Rate Calculations, Cooling Circuit Flow Information, MOLDFLOW Results, etc.) to be utilized where applicable.
  • Works with support department to ensure tools, machines and processes are optimized. Recommends and implements changes and improvements to cycles, processes and procedures to maintain schedule and quality parts.
  • Maintains documentation and paperwork to support improvements, trains personnel as needed in revised processes and procedures.
  • Trains Setup trainees on the newest and latest techniques and tools as they become available.

Quality Engineering Position Summary

Apply quality engineering sciences and principles to all phases of product lifecycle: planning, development, qualification, manufacturing, and continuous improvement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide necessary definition, development, and deployment of the company product quality assurance strategy, addressing all phases of product development, utilizing APQP (Advance Product Quality Planning) principles, including IQ/OQ/PQ validation process.
  • Develops and implements risk management tools (e.g., pFMEA, etc.) to incorporate into control planning strategies.
  • Manages the planning and execution of quality assurance strategies as well as product testing efforts, including all associated resources to meet committed delivery dates, in support of new product launch.
  • Implements control plan elements to maintain product consistency through all phases of manufacturing.
  • Develops and implements standards and methods for inspection, testing and evaluation of materials, products, and processes. Will also compile and write manufacturing and inspection instructions/protocols to support this activity.
  • Develops sampling procedures, designs, and develops forms and instructions for recording, evaluating and reporting quality data.
  • Develops/implements programs to evaluate analytical testing, equipment, facilities, manufacturing processes, measurement systems and performance testing.
  • May direct quality department employees on processes for measuring, testing and tabulating data.
  • Will work independently and in a team environment to support the daily function of the manufacturing operation.
  • Will work with cross functional teams on continuous improvement projects and new program launches to ensure manufacturing process and products are optimized and cost effective.
  • Problem solving using formal CAPA tools.
  • Simultaneously fulfil responsibilities on multiple programs with multiple customers.
  • Development of metrology.
  • Statistical analysis.

Tool Engineering Position Summary

The Tool Engineer is responsible for cost, quality, and delivery of managing/engineering the design, build and development of tooling related to the injection molding process. This position will interact with customers, manufacturing plants, internal shop, and suppliers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Part of a cross functional product development team with responsibility of being technical lead for tooling.
  • Decide on tool design concept, with tool designers, and lead Design Review meetings with cross-functional teams to engineer a tool to meet customer and plant requirements.
  • Debug and groom tools to meet quality and manufacturing standards.
  • Track and monitor the entire tool performance for cost, quality, and delivery against quoted assumptions.
  • Provide general technical assistance to the Tool Room personnel as required.
  • Liaison between internal departments including, but not limited to, Quality, Molding, Project Engineering, Tool Room, Shipping, and Scheduling.
  • Responsible for continuous improvement tool related issues on respective program families.
  • Coordinates both corrective action and continuous improvement activities.
  • Supports day to day activities as needed on the production floor.
  • Must be able to use CAD to review tool designs. SolidWorks is preferable.
  • Able to travel up to 25% domestic with some international travel each year.

Program Manager Position Summary

The Program Manager leads the Plant Program Team and acts as the single point of contact for the Sales-Engineering Group on matters pertaining to Program Management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Initiates, Defines, and launches Programs based on Customer Requirements utilizing Atalys Program Management Tools and APQP procedures.
  • Coordinates the establishment of accurate timelines and progress reports pertaining to the Program activities. Ensures Key Milestone deliverables are on time and on budget.
  • Effectively manages Program Activities and leads the Program Team including disciplines such as Quality, Metrology, Industrial Engineering, Tooling, Packaging, Process Engineering and Manufacturing.
  • Communicates with customer and is the key interface between Atalys and Customer.
  • Establishes a positive relationship with customers and building the relationship for future sales growth.
  • Coordinates the establishment of accurate timelines and progress reports pertaining to the Program activities.
  • Liaises with the Sales Engineering Business Unit and acts as the point contact. Oversees the Program “Check Point Reviews” and coordinates the formation and distribution of Program Open Issues and meeting minutes related to the programs.
  • Engages the support and services of VE/VA, Purchasing/Design/R & D/Materials Control and Laboratory as necessary to ensure the successful launch of the program.
  • Leads the Program Gate Reviews and provides monthly status reports for all programs in a timely manner.
  • Interacts with Costing/Estimating Group to ensure that necessary information is provided to assist in the development of accurate and current manufacturing costs.
  • Participates as requested in Customer meetings pertaining to the Plant programs.
  • Plays an active role within the Plant Management Team responsible for the overall direction and performance of the facility.
  • Liaises with Plant Regional Controller regarding open financial issues pertaining to the program.
  • Participates in Plant Operations Reviews and prepares and presents data pertaining to program status.
  • Ensures Qualification requirements are met in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Program assignments can be on continuous improvement projects or new program launches.


Overall Education and Job Experience Requirements

Education:

  • Minimum of a four-year Engineering / Technical Degree or equivalent experience (i.e., 2 to 4 years)

Skills/Experience:

  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to accommodate a flexible schedule.
  • Must be able to demonstrate expertise in a variety of the field’s concepts, practices and procedures.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, root cause analysis, decision making skills, problem solving skills and analytical skills.
  • Technically proficient.
  • Strong, professional communication skills essential, both oral and written.
  • Hands on mechanical or electrical training or experience.
  • Training with measuring instrumentation.
  • Microsoft Office Suite proficient.
  • Demonstrates leadership abilities; is approachable, genial, and friendly.
