Job description
“Good journalism, produced in accordance with high standards, has a vital role which persists in the face of all the changes in the way news is consumed.” IPSO’s Chair, Lord Faulks
We protect and promote standards in journalism, public understanding of the role of the media and find and listen to under-represented voices with perspectives on editorial issues. Join us.
IPSO – the Independent Press Standards Organisation – is the regulator of most newspapers and magazines in the UK. We are recruiting an Engagement Officer to join our committed, friendly, and dynamic Standards Team.
Reporting to the Head of Standards and Regulation, you will support IPSO’s engagement with its regulated publishers. You will regularly meet stakeholders to talk about sensitive and difficult topics, lead the delivery of IPSO’s editorial training programme, welcome new publishers, work with IPSO’s journalist advisory panel, and get involved in our communications work.
IPSO is a small but influential and high-profile organisation. We place a strong emphasis on personal development for staff and provide excellent training opportunities and a supportive work culture. You will be a key part of our work to protect the public and defend freedom of expression, and vigorous public debate by upholding high editorial standards.
To be successful you’ll need to be articulate and efficient, with excellent communication and analytical skills, and an intelligent interest in the press and how it is regulated (although not necessarily any special expertise in this area).
You’ll also have excellent written skills, strong project management skills, need to be comfortable working with digital projects.
An organised and effective administrator, you will be able to manage multiple pieces of work and be able to present complex information in clear and creative ways.
This would be an interesting next step for someone working in communications, or in a membership or education role and looking for a purpose-driven, varied, and interesting role where they could see a clear impact from their work.
IPSO offers hybrid working to all staff and a range of benefits including season ticket loan, cycle to work scheme, private GP service, and (once probation is completed) free gym membership.
At IPSO, we want to create a culture which recognises, values, and respects that people are different. We believe that representing the diversity of the society in which we work is fundamental to our goals of protecting people and promoting freedom of expression.
We are committed to promoting a fair and inclusive workplace where all our people can flourish and reach their full potential. We know diverse teams allow for a more creative and productive environment and we strongly encourage applications from a wide range of people regardless of disability, ethnicity or sexual orientation, age, gender/sex, gender identity or expression, religion, belief, or social background.
