Job description
Do you want to help communities understand their environment and how they can be part of our work to enhance it?
We are looking for Engagement Specialists who will have the opportunity to work on high profile projects and issues of high public interest. There are two types of roles available, where you will either;
1) Work across the Solent and South Downs area, covering Hampshire, Isle of Wight, and East & West Sussex. You will provide specialist engagement support across the full range of activities the Environment Agency are responsible for, including delivering water and environmental improvements and supporting the regulation of activities that can impact the environment. You will provide leadership across our area, demonstrating and embedding behaviours that facilitate constructive conversations and collaborative working.
2) Work on one of our two largest flood and coastal improvement schemes in Hampshire: Hurst Spit to Lymington Strategy and Isle of Wight Coastal Programme. You will develop strong relationships with project partners and stakeholders and will be responsible for project engagement and communication plans. You will be involved in the planning, co-ordination and delivery of a wide range of engagement activities such as public exhibitions, school engagement activities and consultations within the community. You will be responsible for developing and managing a range of engagement and communication materials across different media.
In these roles you will be required to travel to sites not easily accessible by public transport. Being located near our Romsey Office or on the Isle of Wight would be beneficial.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role, or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you.

The team
The Customers and Engagement team supports and delivers outstanding customer service, stakeholder management and engagement across our business. We fulfil diverse requests from customers and facilitate a considered engagement approach. We manage relationships with MPs and oversee engagement on complex or high interest projects.
Depending on the role offered, you may also be part of one of the above project teams consisting of a wide range of people from the Environment Agency and partner organisations.

Experience/skills required
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual who has experience in engagement and/or communications. You do not need to have any previous experience in flooding or coastal risk management or the environmental sector.
Additionally, you will have experience in and be able to demonstrate:
For the project facing roles, a full UK Driving license will also be required.

- Creating, organising, and delivering community engagement strategies, projects, events and relevant materials.
- Tailoring your communication style to meet the needs of your audience, building collaborative relationships with community groups, institutions, and organisations.
- Where you have shown leadership and how you have influenced others to make considered decisions.
- The use of innovative monitoring methods to evaluate the success of community engagement activities, working to continuously improve outputs.
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
- Communicating and liaising with team members, colleagues and other departments for consistency of messaging.
For the project facing roles, a full UK Driving license will also be required.
