Hours: 12 hour shifts - 4 on, 4 off for 5 sets then 14 off
Contract: Permanent, full time

As a Marine Operator you will support the Marine Officer in regulating the movement of shipping and other craft in the Haven in a safe and efficient manner complying with Marine Operating Procedures and Port Control Policy.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
· Keep the Pilotage Log and Movement Sheets as described in Marine Operating Procedures
· Manage traffic in the Haven in a safe and efficient manner.
· Ensure PEC details in file copy correspond to iMAP database (in liaison with Admin Assistant).
· Ensure iMAP database is maintained as current and correct.
· Ensure CERS information on vessels is correct and entered onto the iMAP database.
· Broadcast Navigation Warnings in force, Notice to Mariners in force and weather forecast at appropriate times.
· Other duties of a similar level as required.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential: Criteria that must be met if the job is to be performed successfully. Applicants not satisfying essential criteria would not be considered for the job.
Training and education: Good level of general education
Experience: Working in a VTS style role OR working in a marine environment
Skills and knowledge: Excellent communication skills
Behavioural skills: Team worker, reliable, ability to operate calmly under pressure
Special circumstances: Willing to work overtime as agreed to cover for sickness, training etc., working from VTS 'Station', good state of health, hold a full valid and clean UK driving licence
Desirable: Criteria that would provide advantage in performing role effectively. This function is to help decide who to shortlist if there are too many candidates who meet the essential criteria.
Training and education: V103-1or LPS, Four GCSE at Grade C or higher including English and a physical science, STCW '95 Officer of the Watch (Deck) or equivalent
Experience: Knowledge of Port Control procedures OR knowledge of Milford Haven waterway
Skills and knowledge: Basic IT skills in MS office, Health and Safety knowledge/awareness
Behavioural skills: Willing to undertake identified training
Special circumstances: Home residence, once authorised, to be within 15 miles of The Port Authority buildings
