ROLE OVERVIEW
Oxford Quantum Circuits, as a full-stack hardware provider, designs, builds and operates quantum computers. A critical component of the computer is the control system which is responsible for generating and analysing the microwave pulses necessary for controlling the qubits. This is a complex machine that requires careful assembly, testing and maintenance in order to operate correctly. As an Electronics Laboratory Technician you will not require any prior experience working with quantum computers, but you will however require a solid background in electronics laboratory operations. This includes, working with stakeholders to understand their requirements, planning and prioritising your time effectively, the assembly and testing of components and sub-systems, the restock and control of laboratory stores, the implementation of procedures to improve workflow, and the management, control and coordination of laboratory activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Following a predefined engineering process to ensure that the control hardware is delivered on time and to specification. This includes: Ensuring subcomponents are adequately stocked ahead of time
The testing, bring-up and sometimes rework of control PCBs
The assembly and testing of subsystems
Updating, controlling and maintaining test documentation
- Ensure the laboratory is well-stocked, well-resourced and well-controlled
- Help define working practices and adhere to those that are already in place
- Contribute to the set-up and maintenance of our quantum computers (training will be provided).
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Experience working as an electronics laboratory technician in a professional environment
- An ability to solder and perform delicate rework
- An understanding of how to use an oscilloscope and other laboratory equipment
- Excellent knowledge of safe working practices in a laboratory/industrial environment
- Highly adaptable, good communication skills, and interpersonal skills
- Excellent planning and organisational skills
- Ability to problem-solve dynamically
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Higher level qualifications in a STEM subject
- An ability to understand and write software (ideally Python)
- Eagerness to work within the technology sector

LOCATION & TRAVEL
OQC’s office is located in Shinfield, Reading. There will be a requirement for occasional travel throughout the UK and elsewhere abroad for conferences, meetings and engineering visits.
