Job description

To assist with maintaining the network, install all types of streetlighting electrical equipment, street light columns, bollards, signs and feeder pillars this includes all associated wiring. Install cables cut outs and lanterns and repairing lanterns.

You will work with minimal supervision and will be responsible for achieving your own performance targets set by the account management team.

What will this role involve?


  • Install all electrical equipment conforming to HEA and IEE 18th Edition wiring regulations
  • Attend to routine street lighting faults
  • Diagnose and replace failed components
  • Carry out electrical inspection tests and install electrical equipment to 2391/714 or equivalent
  • Occasionally assist with the excavation and install columns, bollards and signs.
  • Block clean and change
  • Make off SWA/PVC insulated cable
  • Record test results using hand held computer
  • Commissioning of new lighting columns/bollards/lit signs
  • Take part in out of hours emergency services on a rota basis
  • Other maintenance tasks as required
  • Provide support to other Amey contracts
  • Responsibility for the security of plant, tools and materials
  • Responsible for the safe use of vehicles
  • Responsibility for wearing all PPE
  • On site responsibility for one Operative
  • Responsible for own health and safety and that of the public
  • Responsible for achieving own performance targets
  • The work is carried out outdoors hence you will be working in an environment of varying weather conditions and temperatures
  • The post holder will attend all training deemed appropriate and will be expected to attend regular tool box talks

What are we looking for?


  • Driving Licence
  • C1 Driving Licence – Beneficial but not essential
  • City & Guilds Part 2 or equivalent in Electrical Installation works
  • City & Guilds 2391 Electrical Inspection or equivalent
  • Ability to work at heights of up to 15 metres
  • 18th Edition - Beneficial but not essential
  • Certification for Electrical testing
  • HEA/HERs Competency Portfolio - Beneficial but not essential
  • Good all round project management knowledge
  • Ability to hand dig and excavate for streetlighting installations
  • Experience of street lighting Installations and associate maintenance - Beneficial but not essential
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal/written) and be able to manage stakeholders at all levels Technical competencies
  • Emergency First Aid at Work (HSE) - Beneficial but not essential
  • Card ECS - Beneficial but not essential
  • Personal Highways Safety - Beneficial but not essential
  • Signing, Lighting and Guarding - Beneficial but not essential
  • CAT Scanner (Highways) - Beneficial but not essential
  • IPAF Vertical Personnel Platform 1B or equivalent - Beneficial but not essential
  • Manual Handling - Beneficial but not essential
  • Ability to loan work
