Maintenance Apprentice (Electrical bias) Darley Dale 40 hours per week
The Mechatronics Maintenance Technician apprenticeship is designed for those who are seeking a career as a Mechanical or Electrical Engineer.
Compulsory Units include:
  • Carrying out fault diagnosis on engineered systems;
  • Carrying out preventative planned maintenance on engineered systems;
  • Assembling and testing fluid power systems;
  • Maintaining mechanical devices and equipment;
  • Wiring and testing electrical equipment and circuits;
  • Hydraulics and Pneumatics;
  • Programmable Logic Controller (PLCs).
Additional essential training to be undertaken:
  • Overhead Crane Training;
  • Abrasive Wheel Training;
  • Mobile Tower Scaffold Training;
  • First Aid Training;
  • Fire Warden Training;
  • Mobile Elevated Working Platform Training;
  • Working in Confined Spaces Training;
  • Confined Space Rescue Training;
  • Working at Height Training;
  • Work at Height Rescue Training;
  • Manual Handling;
  • FLT Training (Optional).
The apprentice will develop the essential skills to become a skilled maintenance technical by studying the principles and processes of mechanical maintenance.
Job Summary
The apprentice will learn to work to strict safety and quality requirements, help to achieve daily production requirements in terms of quality and quantity, optimising efficiency and maintaining operational excellence.
To gain a full working knowledge in all aspects of maintenance, including learning to diagnose faults leading to repair as well as maintaining facilities process equipment. To assist and support with planned and reactive maintenance, as well as liaise with internal stakeholders and subcontractors.
The key objectives of the role will be covered in the training both on site and at the Training Centre
Key Objectives
  • Work in a safe and responsible manner. (For own and other people’s safety).
  • Comply with statutory, Quality and Organisational and Health and Safety regulations whilst carrying out manufacturing techniques.
  • Ensure that plan and equipment perform to the required standard to facilitate production targets regarding Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost within a high value manufacturing environment.
  • Work on a broad range of activities including installation, testing, fault finding and the on-going planned maintenance of complex equipment.
  • Use and interpret a range of engineering data sources and supporting documentation.
  • Utilise lean techniques to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Where appropriate, support installation, testing and commissioning of a wide range of equipment.
  • Carry out complex fault diagnosis and repair on high technology engineered systems.
  • Maintain mechanical equipment.
  • Maintain fluid and pneumatic power equipment.
  • Minimise machinery downtime by carrying out preventative planned maintenance.
  • Confirm testing and subsequent smooth hand over of equipment and plant.
  • Read mechanical schematics.
  • Use of basic hand tools.
  • Gain an understanding of mechanical systems including gears, bearings, pneumatics and hydraulics.

Essential Education
A minimum of five GCSEs at Grade 5 to 9, including mathematics, English and a science, technology or engineering-related subject.
