We are looking for a person to fill a vacancy that has arisen in the Maintenance Team at our
award-winning Zoo.

The right person for this job must enjoy working both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
You will have early start times and work can involve evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays.
Electricians spend most of their time working on a planned work schedule whilst also being responsive
and flexible to ensure the effective and safe operation of all aspects of our Zoos operation. The work
involves a lot of walking, lifting and bending, and you will often have to wear waterproof and
protective clothing.
This job is not just electrical work – it is being an electrician in the wonderful surroundings and
environment of Colchester Zoo and we are looking for the right person to join our team!

JOB TITLE: Electrician
Colchester Zoo is home to over 160 species and is dedicated to supporting conservation projects
around the globe. As an award-winning visitor attraction with over 1 million guests visiting each
year, every staff member at the zoo works together to ensure that our guests have an enjoyable and
unforgettable experience.
KEY TASKS &
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- You will report to the Building Services Manager and Zoo Manager.
by your line manager.
• Installation of power systems; lighting; security and data systems in all
buildings.
• Check electrical systems to ensure they are all working efficiently and safely.
- Carry out PAT testing and maintain a of record results.
- Attend emergency call outs for power failures around the park.
for events eg Halloween & Christmas.
SKILLS AND
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum City and Guilds 2365-02 or equivalent
• A highly motivated individual with excellent Grounds Maintenance skills
• Time management
• Excellent and clear communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team
• To work calmly and effectively in a high-pressure environment
• Knowledge of Health and Safety compliance
• Maintenance of records relating to tasks performed, timesheets, materials,
vehicles and equipment.
• Ability to interact positively and professionally with the public, and colleagues
WORKING
ENVIRONMENT
Whilst in this role you will regularly be exposed to:
• A noisy working environment

EXPERIENCE Ideally you will be an experienced electrician with the necessary qualifications
(as above) to work in this role. Full on the job training will be given.
WORKING HOURS This is a permanent full-time position 5 days per week
You will be expected to work during school holidays and be ‘on call’ some weekends
and bank holidays.
Pay rate – to be discussed at interview and subject to successful completion of a
three-month probation period.
