Job description
What to ExpectWhat You’ll DoWhat You’ll Bring
Tesla is looking to hire a rock-star engineer to push the boundaries of lighting, switches and haptics technology. Working alongside the most creative and resourceful designers and engineers in the world on a lean and agile team, you will design, simulate, implement, and debug systems and circuits used in Tesla vehicles and related HWs. You will experiment with and develop novel solutions to the myriad of complex electrical problems in interior systems. You will work closely with cross functional hardware and software engineers on exploration and definition of advanced systems. You will own the electrical design from prototype to production. You should have extensive experience in complex PCBA development integrating processors, sensors and lighting.
- Engineer, research, develop and execute world-class interior systems that exceed styling and functional targets and are compliant to regulatory requirements.
- Developing new novel designs that will enable new technology adopting that align with the design theme
- Work through the entire product cycle with critical input early in development by collaborating with Tesla’s design/styling and engineering teams.
- Participate in the iterative process with all stakeholders to deliver the optimal balance of form, function, performance and cost.
- Direct Tesla and supplier engineering development to enable successful execution.
- Maintain all required product development documentation
- Work with cross functional integration of interior lighting and switches with the Tesla design/styling team, engineering teams such as body, exteriors, LV electronics and manufacturing as well as with Tesla supply chain teams and supplier engineers to achieve technical feasible designs.
- First principles, physics-based thinker and problem solver able to handle problems of varied scope and complexity. Demonstrate technical aptitude, excellent communication, and creativity
- Deep understanding of analog and power circuitry such as amplifiers, DC-DC convertors, ADC/DACs.
- Demonstrate in depth knowledge of PCB design and validation. Knowledge of PCB manufacturing technologies, and DFM. Engage with PCB/PCBA vendors for a successful PCB fabrication/assembly.
- Experience in PCBA design and integration into assemblies. Experience in Altium Designer or Eagle PCBA
- Experience in usage of lab equipment including Spectrum Analyzers, Signal Generators, Oscilloscopes, Multimeters and DC Power Supplies
- Experience with common communication protocols (CAN, LIN, 232, 485, I2C, etherCAT), their proper implementation and associated challenges
- Understanding of latest lighting and smart surface technologies including capacitive touch, time of flight, force touch, ISELED, SmartLED, etc
- Experience with complex assemblies including PCBA, sensors, flexible assemblies and enclosures.
- Experience with MATLAB, Python and SPICE for analysis, modeling, and simulations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic engineering or other relevant engineering discipline.
- Experience with technical documentation in at least 1 full lifecycle vehicle programs to include DVP&R and DFMEA
- Utilize DFSS methodologies as appropriate during the design, validation and launch of the programs
