Job Purpose
Responsible for the implementation and execution of all corrective, preventative and predictive maintenance in all areas of the process. Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager to ensure that the maintenance department delivers a safe, effective and efficient service to the Production department.
Implementation and development of the site CMMS to involve direct liaison with the Engineering Manager and Stores Coordinator.
To assist in the strategic development of the maintenance philosophy at Lenham by implementing new maintenance techniques and procedures directed at increasing the overall plant availability in line with budget expectations.
To be directly involved in the planning stages of all planned outages to ensure outage time schedules and specific maintenance programmes are completed on time and within budget. Direct supervision/liaison with sub-contractors either as a general additional maintenance resource or through specific maintenance contracts.
Accountabilities
1. Health & Safety
- Ensure that all activities within the Lenham site are carried out in a safe manner in line with the Tarkett Safety Policy and all Health & Safety statutory requirements.
- Carry out Risk Assessments to ensure activities are completed in a safe manner at all times.
- Working as part of a team striving for continual improvement in minimising Health & Safety risk at the Lenham manufacturing plant.
- Ensure visitors/subcontractors attending the site are inducted in the site safety and emergency procedures.
- Ensure that the sites housekeeping standards are achieved and developed.
- To ensure that the implementation and use of specific tool box talks are carried out consistently and documented accordingly.
- To act as the authorised/nominated person, within the limits of their competence, by issuing safety permits as and when required.
- To strive to introduce best practice and “right first time philosophy” within the maintenance department.
2. Plant development
- To assist in the implementation of equipment upgrades and replacement in line with the agreed process priorities.
- To be a key member in the planning, execution and completion of the annual planned shutdown (usually 3 main shutdowns per year).
- To be actively involved in all statutory inspections of the plant and equipment on an annual basis.
- To be actively involved in the day to day use of, implementation and the development of the company CMMS.
3. Team working
- Manage and contribute towards the team effort, encouraging team spirit and provide assistance to others.
- Encourage employee involvement in decision making processes.
- Maintain and develop industrial relations through effective communication.
- To develop and be a part of the WCM culture on site at Lenham by developing procedures and initiatives (Quick Kaizen, 4D/8D, Route Cause analysis, FEMECA and 5S) and participate in all parts of the PPM (Planned Professional Maintenance) pillar.
Person Specification
- Good communication skills at all levels, both verbally and written.
- Ability to demonstrate excellent organisational skills, with a proactive and flexible approach to all tasks and when required a flexible approach to working hours.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness and ability to operate flexibly over a wide range of work areas.
- Good attention to detail, with problem solving and analysis skills.
- The ability to be able to manage numerous sub-contractors in a planned shutdown environment.
Qualifications and Experience
- City & Guilds/ONC qualified (ideally in Electrical/Instrumentation & Control).
- Having completed a recognised apprenticeship from within a comparable industry.
- Ideally 5 to 10 previous years’ experience from within the Power, Paper, Cement or Energy from Waste industries, or from a FMCG manufacturing environment.
- Previous CMMS experience an advantage.
- Ideally holding an IOSH safety accreditation.
- Experience with preventative/predictive maintenance techniques (thermography, PAT testing, medium voltage working environments).
- Electrically, Instrumentation/Control the ideal candidate will have experience with instrumentation and control systems to include Siemens PLC’s, DCS and all forms of level, temperature, pressure and flow control.
- The ability to be able to carry out basic welding repairs would be of an advantage.

Working Pattern
- Working part of a day shift pattern consisting of an early, day and late shift.
- During planned shutdowns, or specific times of heavy workload within the department, extended periods of additional site attendance may be required. In addition, any holiday requests for time off during these periods will be denied.
Hours of work:
Rotating shift pattern 06:00-14:00, 08:00-16:00 and 14:00-22:00 Monday to Friday (30 minutes for lunch).
Own transport required due to location.
