Job Title: Electrical, Control and Instrumentation Apprenticeship

Location: Port Talbot (SA13)

Salary: Year 1 £14,000, Year 2 £15,580, Year 3 £17,963, Year 4 £20,641

Length of apprenticeship: 4 years

Closing Date: Sunday 19th March 2023

The Role

The Apprenticeship

All our apprentice programmes will commence 4th September 2023.

Throughout the programme you will gain experience of a wealth of systems, operations, methods and tools. You will be supported by experienced professionals with excellent on the job training.


Year 1 – In your fist year you will study for the below qualifications:

  • Enhanced Engineering Programme (previously known as Pathways to Apprenticeships)
  • FE/ HE Academic Engineering Qualification (e.g. Level 3 Diploma) for Electrical engineering;
  • NVQ Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations;
  • Digital Literacy

Year 2 - In your second year, you will:

  • Study a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering;
  • Start your NVQ Level 3 Qualification in Engineering Maintenance;
  • Undertake further training courses and projects.
  • Progress Tata Steel’s competency knowledge & skills units in line with your job profile, and to the agreed business standards.

Year 3 - In your third year, you will:

  • Continue with your NVQ Level 3 Qualification in Engineering Maintenance;
  • Be eligible to apply to start an HNC in Engineering
  • Undertake further training courses and projects.
  • Progress Tata Steel’s competency knowledge & skills units in line with your job profile, and to the agreed business standards.

Year 4 - In the final year of your apprenticeship you will:

  • complete your NVQ Level 3 Qualification in Engineering Maintenance
  • undertake Tata Steel’s competency assessments to confirm that you meet Tata Steel’s high levels of knowledge & skills
  • Progress Tata Steel’s competency knowledge & skills units in line with your job profile, and to the agreed business standards.

The Candidate

You will have (or are expected to achieve) 5 GCSEs or equivalent (including English Language, Maths and Science) at Grades A* - C or level 4 – 9.

You must have achieved at least a grade B or level 5 in GCSE Mathematics.
