This is an exciting opportunity for you to begin your career in elections and electoral registration, where you will be encouraged and funded to undertake professional training and career development via the Association of Electoral Administrators.
Your next role
We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to join our small, busy Elections Team who are responsible for compiling the electoral register and running local and national elections and referenda in the borough of Swindon.
You will be responsible for your own day to day work with particular responsibility for maintaining the electoral register, along with playing an important role in the delivery of all elections with particular responsibility for polling station staffing.
Excellent IT skills are essential in this role. You will need to be competent in Microsoft systems and have a good aptitude towards technology. You must also have excellent written and verbal communication skills as a considerable part of the job is dealing with registration and election queries by email, phone or in person.
You must be able to work under pressure to meet deadlines. You will be working with large volumes of data so accuracy and attention to detail is vital, combined with a rapid assimilation of electoral and electoral registration legislation and best practice.
You will need to remain politically impartial at all times in your dealings with politicians and the public.
Election times are very busy and the post-holder will be expected to work additional time outside normal hours (including evenings and weekends) during this period, for which overtime is paid.
You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act “for the effective performance of a customer-facing role”).
