SUMMARY
The Senior Manager, Education Programs is responsible for the planning, management, and production of high-quality director education programming (in-person and virtual “live” events”). This engaging role provides the ability to engage on critical issues that are transforming business and society, working with influential decision-makers, educating a new generation of directors. This includes identifying critical topics, scheduling and preparing major speakers for events via planning calls, and determining the appropriate format for our major programs. This role manages the speaker submission process, project plan creation, contract negotiation and management of live program planning (conferences, webinars, etc). In addition, the Senior Manager, Education Programs manages two team members responsible for curating speakers for major in person and virtual events. Additionally, this role collaborates with marketing to ensure program messaging reflects key content benefits to members. This role is specific to content planning and does not include event and logistics planning.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Leads the team in planning and execution of NACD’s portfolio of our signature live programs (both in-person and virtual) that generate education revenue.
    • Summit (large annual multi-track conference)
    • Two Master Class programs per year (1.5 day one-track programs)
    • Webinar series such as Private Company (quarterly)
    • Member engagement / sponsored webinars
  • Leads the Program Development team which is responsible for agenda design, speaker recruitment, call for proposals, and liaising with the logistics team to develop and execute on live education programming. As team leader, focuses on career development, skills enhancement, use of project management tools, documented SOPs, and effective distribution of workload.
  • Oversees the live program design and delivery, with a focus on topics and speaker selection and creating high-impact learning.
  • Serves as the lead content programmer for the flagship program, the NACD Summit, developing our mainstage experience.
  • Edits learning objectives, descriptions and other education copy for major programs as needed for the Marketing team.
  • Creates new formats for programming and refreshes content on an ongoing basis, considering the need to create new immersive content experiences in an increasingly competitive landscape.
  • Works with stakeholders on the Content team and other departments to develop program plans that address the most urgent and common member needs.
  • Actively contributes to annual budgeting & planning process related to speaker expenditures.
  • Provides white-glove speaker experience, including contract negotiations and then enforcing adherence to all contract terms, communicating those terms across all stakeholders, maintaining and growing relationships with bureaus and speakers, etc.
  • Manages content planning calls, gives speakers direction on session outline and key objectives, generates follow-up outlines for sessions based on call content.
  • Creates project plans including defining timelines and deliverables for each event specific to program development.
  • Project manages the conference program development processes, including leading cross-functional meetings, ensuring all teams update action items, report on conference progress.
  • Coordinates with the content development and storytelling teams to ensure greater synergy between thought leadership initiatives and educational content.
  • Oversees department’s work in ensuring event content is updated on a timely basis, speaker contracts are completed, and event evaluations are compiled and shared with appropriate parties.
  • Works with Partner Relations to ensure alignment between content and contracted speakers.
  • Works closely with NACD’s strategic content partners’ SMEs on their program contributions.
  • Continuously strives to deepen personal knowledge of governance issues by staying abreast of trends through reading the latest research and attending external events.
  • Collaborates with the Marketing, Business Development, and Member Engagement teams to ensure that the value of content and speakers is being translated in our external communications with members.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This role supervises two direct reports including Program Manager, Content Experience and the Education Programs Coordinator.
EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree or higher in business, communications or related field is required. A minimum of five years’ progressive experience in conference programming, in person and virtual, as well as project management is required; a minimum of two years of experience directly managing staff is preferred. Demonstrated ability in writing, relationship management, and a familiarity with key issues affecting boards of directors are a necessity. Employee must be a team player with a positive attitude and understand the concept of “all hands-on deck” during events and that no one is above performing any particular duty. Handling of multiple priorities and deadlines with minimal supervision is required. Must be able to handle confidential information in a professional manner and have the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks on any given day. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required.
NACD employees are required to be fully vaccinated for the COVID-19 virus by their first day of employment. An employee is “fully vaccinated” two weeks after receiving their second dose of a two-dose vaccination series or two weeks after the first shot of a single-dose vaccine (or as described by the vaccine manufacturer).
The salary/hourly range for this position is $90,000-$97,000 plus bonus potential. Compensation is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc.
